My kids are older now and I am attending a baby shower for a friend from work. Can any of you younger moms give me some ideas on what is a good gift now a days....was there something that you received as a gift that you found you used all the time, just loved, became a favorite etc...I am thinking of spending around $40-$50. I am also planning of getting the baby (a boy) some books too..but I would rather get something useful other than the standards-baby clothes, blankets, etc...any suggestions appreciated.

What can I do next?

Do you know if she is going to breastfeed? A nursing bra will be an essential-a gift certificate to Bosom Buddies and she can get the size she needs. Diapers are always appreciated, too.

My little one loved the indestructible books, she could chew on them, look at the vibrant pictures and make animal noises as she read. Stores carry them, but we just went around boulder and since they are so popular they were sold out. Amazon has about ten titles in the series. Good luck

I say pick a theme like car or bathtime, feeding/diapering. Then get all of the stuff for that
Like at bathtime, washcloths, hooded towels, the pink lotion, head to toe wash, duckie thermometer, toys, toy basket, faucet cover etc.
For the car, carseat toys (the ones that attach to the handlebar), window shades, rearview mirror and car seat mirror so mommy can see him when driving, soft music, etc.
For feeding and diapering, bibs, spoons, bottle drying rack (which is helpful if pumping too) butt paste, cloth diapers for burp rags, diapers, etc.
Every woman needs a boppy!

How about making a diaper cake? They sell them online, but I have made many for my friends. They are very cute and useful. You basically just roll up diapers and secure them with the clear hair rubber bands. I use a pizza pan/ cardboard for the bottom and stack them so it looks like a tiered cake. Wrap the layers with a wide ribbon so each one stays together. You can put travel size baby lotion, baby bath, diaper cream, and toys to decorate.

I am having a baby and I have recieved diapers and wipes. Yes they are practical, yes they are not something everyone ohhs and ahhs over, but they are something I will use, need and cost alot of money! Has she registered? What about a baby bath and some soaps? I love your book idea as I love books and reading to my kids.
Practical gifts are some of my favorite to get. Just a thought.
