Need Baby Monitor Without Interference from Cordless Phones

I recently bought an inexpensive Fisher Price baby monitor at Babies R Us and when I got it home it didn't work at all -- just terrible static. When I brought it back (a whole other story, they wouldn't refund my money, I hate Babies R Us), they said it was probably interference from our cordless phones (we have 3 in the apt). Does anyone know of a good inexpensive baby monitor that will work with cordless phones in the apartment?

What can I do next?

Hi K.,

We have been through 3 baby monitors--two of which were pricey enough that they should have been perfect, but were the worst! Seriously, the fancier they got, the more static or interference we got.

The one we still use is the Safety 1st cheapie that we got for free at Toys R Us when we spent over $75 during one of their baby sales. I just looked it up, and it is the Crystal Clear model:

Hi K.,
We've dealt with this for a long time, too. We switched monitors AND phones but nothing stopped the interference (if it wasn't the phone, it was the microwave!). Also, do NOT buy the 2g monitors - we tried those (more $$) and EVERYTHING interfered with them. I sent them back after a few days. We FINALLY found relief - the new 6.0g phones use a difference frequency than other electronics, including the monitors. After switching to the new phones, our monitors work perfectly - no interference! We can use the 600m monitors with terrific reception is great with the new phones. Plus, phones are much cheaper to switch out than monitors, so try a new 6.0phone. You can find them at almost all stores. We got ours at Costco - Vtech, it works terrific, great sound and $60 for 4 phones, including a new answering device. I'm sooooo happy with these new frequency phones with the monitors.
Good luck!

HI K.,
Try Phillips. They are great. They are a bit pricey ($200) but are difinately worth it. We have 3 cordless phones at home and we never heard any static. We never even had to change the channel. It plays lullabyes and the parent unit displays temperature in a baby's room. I have been using it for 2 years. I got mine from www.drugstore.com
You can also get it from Amazon.com, babyuniverse.com, babygear.com, etc.

Hi K.,
I use the Sony Baby Call (it's white and pale pink)- it's about $45 at BRU and there are often coupons for 15% off. I think it's amazing and it sits right next to my cordless phone and I don't have any problems with it.
Good luck.

It might not have anything to do with your phones. Your apt. might be too small for monitors. I know we never used them in our house because of the feed back. Our house is about 1100 sq. foot and we can hear our kids in every room so we just stopped using them. We would use them from the inside to outside in the yard but that's about it.

i too love Philips baby monitors. i had one 4 years ago for my first child and they no longer make that model but i bought their most recent one and love it. yes it is expensive but i had bought a few other cheaper ones and they stunk so it was worth it. for something i use every day for several years i'm willing to pay for quality.
good luck

Uniden brand of cordless phones makes several models that have a room monitor feature. It works just like a baby monitor, & eliminates the need for a separate gadget. We live in a small, but 3 floor house & have been using them since our kids were newborns (they're almost 5 now) w/no problems whatsoever.

I use the Philips Avent Digital Screen DECT monitor that came out in the fall (it's all white in color). We have a wireless network and two different cordless phones. I've never had any static or interference. It's pricier than many other models, but I really like it. You can adjust the volume and the sensitivity. I got mine at amazon for $110 a couple of months ago. Here's the link:

We also use a cheapo Safety 1st monitor that someone gave me. I've definitely had stange beeps and weird stuff going on with it, and it's such a pain to change the battery of the receiver.

I hate BRU too - so much that I refuse to shop there anymore....Buy Buy Baby's return policy is so liberal - if they carry it, they don't require a receipt. So they get all my business, even though they can be slightly more expensive.

I know that you're looking for help with a new monitor, but I can't stand the new BRU return policy, and I don't think you should lose your money! So the big question is - do you still have your receipt, or is that why they wouldn't return the monitor?

I have an expensive monitor - one of the video ones...I had issues with it a few months into using it, though I don't think that it's related to the cordless phones (I also have three in my house, and they don't interfere with anything else). I called the manufacturer and they replaced it. So you could try that route.

Second, if you DO have the receipt (and have the fight in you!), call the BRU offices. You need energy to deal with them - I had gotten something off my registry that they didn't carry in the stores, and they wouldn't take it back in the store, and the website only wanted to return it and credit the gift giver, and not give me credit. I was still experiencing PP blues, and all I could do was cry. It's been too long for me to have a leg to stand on, but I would totally fight them now....

OK - I don't know if I've helped at all. I hope I didn't make you hate BRU even more! Good luck!

(AND, let me know if you get a resolution with the monitor you already have...I love to know what works with these companies and what doesn't!)
