Hi ladies,

I need as much factual information as possible in regards to pastas' nutrition - pros and cons. My stepdaughter is all she wants to eat and not in moderation. I know pastas should be included in a good balanced nutrition but how often and how much for a 12 year old girl who is now wearing plus sizes. She was told by a teacher that pastas are "good" so when we go out that's all she wants to eat, even at home. If you know of a website I can look and print factual information please let me know. I'll appreciate any help/info. you may share. Thank y'all!

Since pasta is all carbs it turns into sugar. A lot of pasta brand are now coming out with a whole grain, wheat or plus version that includes mixed grains and vitamins. These are much better choices than regular pasta as far as nutritional value. There is nothing wrong with eating pasta as long as you balance it with vegetables and lean protein.
I would suggest comparing labels at the supermarket next time you are there.

i am a person who loves pasta! not in moderation either and it's partly b/c i have an intolerance to it. my body does not process it well and i gain so much weight when i eat it! i would check out www.mercola.com or look at one of his books on metabolic typing. people who tend to need more protein often crave what their body can't process until the diet it completely cleaned up...no sugars, no artificial anything (colors or flavors) mainly eating food the way God made it for us. another book is Nourishing traditions by sally fallon and the perfect you by jordan rubin. schools aren't realizing what they are doing by making recommendations like that. good luck and please please let me know if i can be of any help.

Paty,

Just remember that the starch in the pasta turns to sugar in your body. So while it is fun to eat, eat in moderation at 12 years old. Especially when there is a weight problem already. Maybe only 2 times a week and gradually down to one a week, then to 2 times a month?
