Hi Moms, I started my own business working from home about 8 months ago, and met most of my business partners (team) in my local advertising area. I've had quite a few people call me from different advertising companies, some are very reasonable and some are very expensive. My business is doing well enough to pay for expanding my advertising area, but I'm still new to this and type of thing?! So I was hoping and wondering if any of you have some advise and or idea's for me. I would like to meet more people in the surrounding area's but I don't want to pay for something if its not the best way to go. There are so many different ways to do this type of advertising, my advertising really focuses on moms. I just don't know if I should do more news papers, or start family magazines, billboards or do a small commercial Comcast? I really would appreciate any input! Thanks, L.

What can I do next?

Hi L.,
Firstly, congrats on starting your own business and your success with it.
I have been a Tastefully Simple consultant for a year and I know first hand how hard it is to start..and I know tons of people.
Though this is my own business, our HQ provides us with excellent materials, but I am always trying to find new ways to get my name out there, but also keep my costs down.
Have you tried any expo events? Some of them are kinda of costly, though.
Also, we have two seasonal lines, so every season I send out postcards to everyone.
Another good thing to do is to try and talk up your business. I am getting better at this, at least with people I know or see on a more regular basis. Strangers are harder for me, unless they show interest.
I am not exactly sure where Lemont is, but depending on what you sell, I might have a spot in my multi-vendor open house on March 21. It's not at my house, my Jazzercise instructor is lending me her building for a few hours. There is no cost.

Let me know what you think.

I have a company that I work for on the side and use for my own business. This company gives you $1000 of discounts on a variety of items from office supplies to insurance to restaurants. They also put your company name and information up near the top of Yahoo, Google, and so on. They allow you to use their company logo in your marketing material as well. With this you receive 6 magazines a year and weekly email updates about how to mkae your small business thrive. This company is all about the small business owner. They also offer to host a web page for you for a small fee. The whole thing is reasonable, about $1 per day.

I have used this and have just recently started to see a couple of calls from it. I also have signed up for several craft fairs at the school.

Good luck!

Hello, I know you are looking for advice for your business, but it seems you have a working knowledge of this. I was wondering what methods of advertisement you use now? I too am trying to up start my own business and need some help on what or where to go. It is a natural birthing class called HypnoBirthing. I am a certified instructor, but having a hard time getting the word out. Any advice would be helpful as it seems you do have some ideas already. Sorry I do not have info for you, though as I am trying this myself.
