Hi Moms,
I need some advice/help. I have fallen behind on my mortgage and am in foreclosure. I don't want to lose my home, but no one will help me because my credit is horrible. I am so upset about this that I can't even think straight. I fell behind because my daughter became ill and I missed work, I tried to get help from my lender but they refuse to help. So I am turning to you moms for any and all advice you can give. Thanks moms for your help.
S.
I want to thank all of you who responded to my request. I contacted my mortgage company again, and they were able to approve me into the Making Home Affordable Loan Modification Program. This program suspended the foreclosure and lowered my payment. I am grateful to all of you for your info on where to find help. It saved my home.

I heard about these places from our financial company (where we have our retirement accounts). Good luck, stay focused on your family and remember you will get through this.
• Free foreclosure prevention counseling is available through nonprofit agencies approved by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (www.hud.gov/foreclosure). Counselors can explain available programs and will help those eligible obtain a home loan modification or refinance under the government’s new “Making Home Affordable” program. HOPE NOW (www.hopenow.com), an alliance between HUD-approved counseling agents, mortgage companies, investors and other mortgage market participants, provides free fo! reclosure prevention assistance via a hotline (888-995-HOPE) staffed by HUD-approved credit counselors who can guide callers through options.
• Free and low-cost credit counseling, housing counseling, bankruptcy counseling and education is available from the National Foundation for Credit Counseling (www.nfcc.org), a national nonprofit credit counseling network that has more than 100 member agencies and nearly 850 offices in communities throughout the country. NFCC-trained and certified counselors can create a debt management plan that sometimes results in reduced or waived finance charges. Services are available in person, via telephone (800-388-2227) and through the Internet. One NFCC agency we often recommend is ClearPoint Financial Solutions, a 30-year-old national non-profit organization that helps consumers with credit, housing and bankruptcy counseling. Services are ! available in person, via phone (877-422-9045) and through the Internet.
There are sources available to help. I received some in the mail. There are I believe, government assistance programs. There are so many Americans in the same scary predicament. I would go on line and start searching. Alternately your state congress man should be able to give you leads to to available sources.I've called mine and only received friendly responses. My calls were in connection with support for various issues being discussed and voted on. But you would have nothing to lose by calling, this is your home.
Best of everything. Take care.
Have you tried your local church, Catholic Charities, Salvation Army, your local social service agency may be able to refer you to some local organizations and look it up online under federal and local government programs that assist home owners in avoiding foreclosure. I wish you and your family all the best in these awful economic times. I totally understand what you are going through I was forced to go on unpaid leave for 6 months and am still behind, so I feel your pain and pray for the best possible solution.
Whatever you do read & understand everything before you sign anything. Scammers pray on people in your shoes. I also think that if you are paying they have a harder time foreclosing even if you are behind.
Good luck to you.
Hi S.... I don't really have any advice for you but I just wanted to respond and tell you your not alone! We are in a similar situation and I totally feel your pain. It's a terrible feeling not to mention really scary. Anyway, I'm not really helping you very much, in fact, I hope I'm not making things worse :) but I just wanted you to know that I can totally relate! I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers... Good luck!
S.,
Your mortgage company has to help. If you are able to start paying again, atleast something. With the new laws that Pres. Obama put into place, you must be at no more that 31% DTI, (Debt to income), meaning that if you make $3000 per month, your mortgage payment cannot be more than 31% of that. If you are at risk of losing your home that is. Go to a website www.makinghomeaffordable.org or .gov, I can't remember which one. Also go to www.hopenow.org they can also help. Don't wait, do all of this today. We were in the same possition, on the foreclosure list, we have now negotiated with our mortgage company and got our payment reduced by more than 1/2. I was a real estate broker for year's here and dabbled in being a mortgage broker for a while as well. Please do these things, they should help. Is your husband also working?
Good luck and don't stop trying, the sqweeky wheel get's the grease.
