Need Advice on Pacifier

I have a big, strong 3 month old boy who really likes a pacifier. My oldest son didn't use one so this is new territory for me. The problems is this - my baby started sleeping from 10:30 pm to 6:30 am at about 9 weeks (yea!), then about a week ago he started rolling over and waking himself up and not being able to go back to sleep beause he couldn't get himself back to his sleeping position. At first I was able to go in and roll him back over and he would go back to sleep. Then it got to be where everytime I put him in his crib he would arch his back and stiffen his legs and roll over immediately upon being put down. No matter how times I would resettle him, he just couldn't seem to stop moving. I started giving him pacifier, which he had previously only had during the afternoon in his seat, when he was going to nap because it seemed to help keep him still and help him relax. Then, of course, he started to want it when he went to bed. Then he started to need it in the middle of the night. Now I am getting up about every 45 minutes to put it back in his mouth because he cries when he loses it. How can I get him back on track and sleeping all night again. I know he is not hungry because I have offered him a feed and he doesn't really eat anything. I have also tried swaddling but he hollers like mad when I do that and it is literally minutes before he has worked himself out of it. I so tired!! Any help would be so nice!!! Thanks!!

What can I do next?

my sister in law says she put an elastic band through the vent holes on each side then put them around their ears!, she is a bit crazy though, i also saw her tie a bandana around the binky and around their head to keep it in - i would not recommend either, this just made me remember her trying so desperately to keep the binkies in the mouths, she also would put about 10 binkies in the bed hoping he would find at least one of them!
my daughter likes a binky, but it falls out all the time, it is more trouble than it is worth, i would just throw them away and go back to basics, start the bedtime routine over again that worked before, as for him rolling and waking, very soon he will be able to roll back and put himself in the position he likes, some babies like to sleep on their bellies.
i did try the sleep positioner for my baby, i did not personally like it but it may work for you

Hi R.!
My hubby and I went through the same scenario and unfortunately we never found a solution---just kept going back in. Till she was old enough to find it and put it back in herself.
Good luck!

Both of my twins were binky babies and if they lost their binkies at night they would cry until I got up and found them for them. One, chin up, there will come a time he can find it himself and put it back in. Two, be happy it's a Binky he wants and not his fingers as you can't take a binky away when the time comes...it's somewhat frowned upon when you remove the kids' fingers (I know...I know...go figure, right???) ;-)~

Okay back to a serious note...

I got tired of getting up as often as they were losing their binkies (and believe with two it was way worse, it was NEVER at the same time...

so I got one of those binky clips...the ribbons are not long enough to harm them in any way and during the day I would use their hands and "help" them to find the binky and put it in their mouths...It wasn't long before they did it on their own. I left the clips on them at night so they could find the binkies easily at night. Then I would only have to get up every once in a blue moon if the binky got pulled off...which usually only happened if one of them "found" the other's popped out binky by mistake in their sleep (they slept in the same crib and then the same bed until last month - they are 3 yo).

Then at 14 mo I took their Binkies away..The first week was hard, but they have been fine ever since..

Anyways.. I hope this all has helped you out...

Good Luck...

Both my boys loved their binkies at bed time. That was the only time I let them have it. Your baby will evenutally be able to find it himself. I put serveral in my son's crib in hopes he would feel one in the night. At about 1 yr. I cut a slit in the ends of the binky to ween them off. It took about 2 nights of hell before they learned to put themselve to sleep. That's the key as they get older, they need to learn to settle themselves. I know as a parent we hate to hear our kids cry, but in the long run everyone will be happier.
