Whe we revamped our insurance a few months ago, we dropped dental and vision altogether.
Why you ask?? First of all, we all have healthy teeth, hubby and I have a couple of crowns and daughter is fortunate to need no ortho treatments.
When you buy dental coverage, the premiums are kindof high and there are restrictions. Such as...many policies will do NOTHING for 18 months, even cleaning. Some will do routine cleaning but nothing intil you have been on the policy for 18 months. THEN, if you need a root canal, crown, etc, they only pay a portion (sometimes less than 1/2).
Look at the big picture... you pay say $100 a month and cannot have any work done for at least 18 months and then you only get about 1/2 covered. SO...do the math... that is $1800 you have spent on premiums and you have to have a crown for example which is around $1500 which will NOT be covered unless you are past the 18 month period. Therefore, you have to pay the $1500, of course a deductible is somewhere in there and that is usually high.
You come out ahead to take the CASH price offered by the dentist which is usually a substaintial discount because they do not have to deal with insurance.
Just another perspective for you to consider.
