I wouldn't push it at all. My daughter didn't start eating stage 3 foods until she was closer to 11 months, same with some table foods. As long as she is otherwise eating and drinking well, and is healthy, who cares what her Dr. says. No use is forcing her if she is having a difficult time. I would just try again in a couple of weeks, or even a month from now. As for the sippy cup, my daughter used hers around 11/12 months. She had practiced with it before, but she enjoyed throwing it more than anything. Don't worry, she'll get the hang of it. Dr's, and 'experts' are so determined to push their standards on every baby, even though each child is different. My daughter never even crawled, she just started cruising at around 10 months, then was a full fledge walker by 13 months. I remember people were like, 'what do you mean she isn't crawling?' Like I commited some great sin. And, yes, at 15 months, she still takes a bottle sometimes (gasp lol) My point is, don't worry about things like this. As long as she is happy and healthy, who cares right? My daughter still gags sometimes on food, and her own hand lol. I still, at 31, can't really swallow pills lol.
