My son is 13 months, and although it is too early, i would love to plan ahead, When should he be ready for a toddler bed? When should we start potty training? I am trying to prepare dad for potty training his son. Any advice on either of these would help greatly.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you so much for the advice, last night i turned his crib into a "toddler" bed. He loved it! and i still feel it is safe. As for the potty training i now have an idea of what to expect! Thank you so much.

i started potty training my son at 12 months. i just began with it being something fun to sit on and read books on. then after a nap i began sitting him on the potty with out pants and we would read as he would go peepee. then slowly i would put him on the potty several times through out the day. i never pushed it. if he didnt feel like being on the potty it was fine, but being on the potty was something fun. by 18 months he was potty trained during the day. he is now 22 months and doing pretty good we may have one accident a day and he still sleeps in a diaper. but we can go places and he will say "UH UH" and that means go to the potty. As far as toddler bed, try a full size mattress on the floor and pillows on the sides so he wont fall off.

um, me personally went from crib to twin size bed at age 2 exactly. It started when he spent the night at Grandma's in her spare twin bed (with pillows on side incase he rolled over) and he did so well when he came home I immediately moved the crib and made the change (baby #2 was coming soon anyway!). He did great no problems.

As far as the potty training- every one is different! I introduced the potty and didn't "Push" it too much at age 18m. He didn't show much interest. Then at 2, he started going pee pee only IF I WOULD ASK AND TAKE HIM. Never poop. Then just this month, at 2y8months, he all of the sudden started using cotton undies and going all by himself, #1 and #2, accident free totally trained!! It was just a matter of when HE WAS READY- he could physically go all along, he just didn't want to...

we moved both of our children to a twin bed at 14 months, and it worked so well! we did it before they were toddlers, so it was never the power struggle, two year old battle to get them to stay in it that so many people experince. now potty training, we just let them both do it whenever they wanted, and both were pretty much done a little after their 3rd birthdays. but then again we aren't your typical oklahoma parents.

your son should be ok to put in a toddler bed now just make sure you get a rail to put on the edge and one side against the wall. or you can get the race car beds the mattress go deep in the bed so they can not fall out. and boys take a minute to potty train. but tell dad to take him with him when he goes or you can take him with you and put him on his chair. eventually he will go in it. good luck

my daughter turned 2 dec 26 and i put her in a full size bed i have a bed rail so she dont fall out and she loves it. were going to start potty training when the weather is warm so she can wear sundress so we dont have to worry about shorts its easier just to pull down the panties. were just going to take it as slow or fast as she wants. we got her a elmo seat to go on the big potty and she sets on it when she wants to so she knows what its all about. good luck

My baby is 18 months and he is definitely not ready for a toddler bed, but all kids are different. I do think that when the child is able to pull his/her pants up and down, they are most likely ready to attempt a first try at potty training. I haven't made it that far yet, but I think most kids start by at least two. Some babies are so far ahead I guess so they are able to be potty trained earlier than that, but don't stress over having your baby out of diapers by two. I think you should do some research (well, I guess you are since your asking questions) and find out ways to potty train using positive reinforcement. Don't try to push him too soon or it may backfire on you and he may refuse to use a potty.

bed....when you're ready and feel he is. my daughter was just 2, my son was 2 in Dec. and I'm waiting as long as he will, probably won't do it until he decides to climb out and it's actually dangerous...he likes his crib and i think if feels safe for some kids.
potty training....not until he's able to communicate well. Boys are usually not ready until closer to 3, somewhere between 21/2 and 3 should be a good time, but they are all different and if they ARE ready, they should get trained pretty quickly. They might sit on the potty and even push something out, like my son has every so often since before 2, and he also comes to me and tells me when he has pooped in his diaper, but I don't think he's quite ready yet. They have to have control, and feel it coming, and be able to stop doing what they're doing to even care about running to the bathroom, which boys seem to not be ready to do until later. Just don't rush him. It shouldn't be as stressful as some people make it. To save a lot of unneeded stress, wait until he is ready. Good luck.

Toddler bed whenever he can crawl out of the crib, or sooner if you just want to. I think if you wait too long, it gets tougher for them to give it up. Potty training when he's ready, no need to push it too early. Between 2 1/2 to 3 years.
