Ok I posted here the other day about a job interview I had.
So I went to the interview on Tuesday morning around 8:30am. The interview went great, so it seemed.
Afterwards the HR lady told me I was hired!
She said I totally have the job, she just needs to put my back round check in.
She said it takes 1-2days to do so.
So it is now Friday and I haven't heard anything back.
I called this morning and after being on hold for about 7min I was told She was unavailable. So I left a message.
I called back just now, over 6hours later and same thing. She is unavailable.
I'm trying to NOT get worried, but I am.
I got really excited being told I had a job. I KNOW there is NOTHING on my back round check.
I'm getting myself all worked up thinking that she is NOT actually going to hire me after telling me I was hired.
Any ideas? Am i just being paranoid?
I really need this job, and am really trying to NOT freak out.

Added: Wanted to say I DO NOT plan on calling again. LIke you all said, I do not want to be annoying lol

What can I do next?

Really , you do not need to freak out. Sometimes things take awhile. I know for a fact working closely with my own HR office, that they sometimes get caught up in so many things that they don't get back to you for awhile, even a couple days. Being that it is friday, they probably are just wanted to get done with work for the weekend. I wouldn't worry. Most likely they are just busy. They will get back to you. If you haven't heard anything on monday, call Tuesday.

If you know there is nothing in your background to worry about, then stop worrying about that part. Really, worrying generally does nothing. I am sure she is just busy and will get back to you. You continuously calling will probably only annoy her (sorry, but true). She said you were hired, just sit back and wait for her to call.

WORST case scenario, and also HIGHLY unlikely, they decided not to hire you - either way, they have to tell you something, right? So just relax. None of us can predict what is going to happen, but based on your facts, it sounds to me as if you have a busy employer who can't wait for you to start but is tied up at the moment.

I work in a corporate enviornment. Even when the most efficient and hard working people tell me something will be done in 2 days, 4 days later I find myself wondering where it is.

Good luck!

Be patient. You made contact and now it's up to them to call. You don't want to start off being the hyper/annoying lady.

I can REALLY UNDERSTAND how you feel especially since it's Friday. I would want to know too!

Don't worry and don't call too often. Sometimes things come up and she may be really busy. Most background checks take a little longer than one or two days depending on where they are looking. Local is a day or so, but if they are doing county, state and federal that will take longer.

It's a "background" check.
It takes time.
You were told you had the job.
Sit tight.
The ball is in their court right now.
They will contact you.
Congrats!

Dont freak out just yet. She may have just gotten swamped with work herself and is taking a bit longer getting back to her. You called, left a message, she will get back to you when she can. Dont keep calling and risk annoying her though. Just be patient. The background check may be taking longer too, even though you dont have anything on there, that office may be busy too seeings how it is the season for holiday help and all.

Just be patient! I am sure everything is fine! :)

Be patient! HR doesn't move very fast on doing anything. You've left a message so wait for her to call back. If by Monday afternoon you haven't heard anything call back. Congrats!

Relax. You're not her first priority and a background check takes time. Sometimes you don't start for 2 weeks after getting hired. Good not to call again.

And btw, congratulations on the new job!

As a hiring manager, I would advise you to stop calling as you have already called too much. One follow up was sufficient. If you have an email then you could briefly follow up by email. It takes much longer than one or two business days to do a background check. If she only verbally said you were hired, I would keep looking for a job as verbally means nothing until you have a written offer. If you don't hear back in a week from your last follow up then I would suspect you do not have the job and send a quick email to let them know you are disappointed and hope to have an opportunity in the future.

Don't panic and please stop stalking your potential new employer. Even though you have gotten a verbal confirmation, I make it a habit to ask for it in writing when the verbal offer is made.

Don't call them but wait for them to get back to you. Give them at least 3 days. In the meantime continue to look for work. That should never end even if you get a job.

If the same thing happens on Tuesday I would think it was okay to set up some different interviews. Let her have Monday to call you back. Calling her back might seem desperate on your part. You called and left 2 messages and calling back and leaving more is not appropriate. Calling on Tuesday and saying you just wanted to check in is okay but just once if you are leaving a message.
