Hi All,
I need some advice. We are going on vacation to Orlando,Florida.I just found out that the room we are getting does not have a refrigarator. I have a 20 month old son. We have got the room through a deal. My son takes his milk 3 times a day.He takes whole milk. My problem is that how to take care of the milk situation I wont be able to give him whole milk since I cant keep the cartobn after opening it once. I just want to know if there are powder milk available for 20 month olds and is it OK to switch to formula milk just for a week.
Please advice. Any other solution will also be appreciated.
Thanks,
S.

Hi! See if when you get to Orlando you can find a BJ's or Costco's. Buy a case of Horizon Organic Reduced fat milk. They come in juice boxes. They don't need to be refrigerated. I take one with me in my diaper bag all the time in case of emergency. They're great!! I buy them at BJs. Don't know if they have BJs in Orlando. Good luck!!

Hi S.,
You can bring a small cooler...even a collapsable one so it doesn't take up too much room. You can also use the hotel ice bucket. Just put fresh ice in the morning and again at night. Good Luck!

Look for the single serve milk cartons that don't need refrigeration (Horizon makes them). I'll bet you can pay extra for a fridge though--call & ask!

call the front desk and request a refrigerator. I'm sure they have them. You will have to pay for it, but if it's that important to you, then I doubt it's too much. Also, are you going to be eating your meals in the room? If not then you can probably just get him some milk at whatever restaurant you are at during those times. As someone else suggested, take a cooler and fill it up with ice from the machine every day. Even if you fly, you can get a soft sided collapsible one that should do the job and fit in your suitcase.
They do make powdered milk, and although I've never had it, I wouldn't recommend it. It looks quite yucky. And I also wouldn't put him on formula, it doesn't taste the same as milk and he doesn't need the formula.

When you check in, ask about the nearest drugstore or Walmart. We always buy a cheap foam cooler (unless you go by car--then you can bring one along). They are only a couple of bucks, and you can throw them away when you go home. A Florida vacation needs a cooler, you'll want to keep lots of things cool, and it cuts down on eating expenses by letting you eat in your hotel.

Hi there,
Enfamil has a toddler formula that's called Enfagrow http://www.enfamil.com/app/iwp/enfamil/productGroup.do?dm... which you might want to check out. It comes in Vanilla and Chocolate flavor so I don't know if that'll work out but I guess it's worth checking out? :) Also I would think that buying the regular powdered milk would be ok as well, but I'm not sure about the taste =0 and lastly, how about maybe getting a small cooler with some ice and keeping a supply of milk in there? Good Luck, and enjoy your vacation :)

I used to work at a hotel in college and anytime some one came in needing a refrigerator we were able to provide one for them in there room at no charge. I would call the hotel, tell them it is for your child's milk and hopefully they will be able to accomidate you. Can't hurt to ask anyway.
Good luck.

When we travel, we have to get goat milk for our daughter (due to her food allergy). Since we don't always have a refrigerator in the room, we buy a cooler once we land (typically styrofoam from a grocery store or 7-11 although I'm toying with the idea of whether airport security would let us check a small empty cooler instead getting the disposable kind). We load it up with fresh ice throughout the day... (most hotels have ice machines). It will keep the milk cold enough and fresh. Bring some big binder clips if you need to need the carton pinched closed.

Hi S.,
If he's not used to a toddler formula, he may not like the taste. You should be able to order him milk with his meals if you are at a hotel restaurant or a theme park restaurant. Also, if you keep a cooler in your hotel room, hotels have free ice machines, keep a container of milk in the cooler and keep refilling the ice a couple of times a day

Most hotels can offer some kind of fridge solution. Even before we had kids, I needed to refrigerate medication and I've always been able to figure it out. They can either put a small fridge in your room (for free or with a small fee) or will have a fridge in a staff area/lounge that they'll store small amounts for you (and it's generally accessible 24/7 because there is always a staff member on duty). Calling ahead and asking nicely will generally do the trick. Good luck!

Earth'sBest and several other organic milk producers offer whole milk that doesnt have to be put in the fridge until after they are open. But they are in small enough cartons that it would be enough for one serving. Toysrus, Wegmans and Tops all carry it.

Your son is probably too old for formula; there just won't enough nutrients for him, given his height and weight. Both my children have had the small-packaged milk that doesn't require refridgeration until it's open. Good for one serving. I know Horizon makes an organic version but supermarkets also carry non-organic versions as well. There's one called "Lil Milk" and there are also generic brands and they're found in the same section where you'll find Parmalat milk. I use them for restaurants and outings because most places don't serve whole milk.

I recently went to Orlando for a weeks vacation. The hotel we stayed in didn't have a refrigerator either, but for a small fee of $10 a day you could have them install a fridge. The other option is that the hotel had a place to get food where they sold food and drinks. They kept this area open from very early i think 6 am until around midnight everyday, here they sold small cartons of milk you could purchase. The other option is to buy the small carton and keep it on ice in the room.

Call the hotel, ask to speak with a manager, ask what they can do to accommodate you. The manager will beable to do more than the clerk at the front desk. They want to please you, so give it a try. Calling well in advance also gives them time to work things out.
Good Luck,
L.

if your going to disney or one of the theme parks you will be able to purchase a carton of milk each time he needs it. the hotel will have an ice machine you could do a cooler with ice in it. and at 20 months it may be time to start cutting back on so much milk. I would talk to your ped about it but 3 bottles of milk in the day is a lot of milk.

Purchase a small collapsable cooler and a tupperware container that doesn't leak to pack in your luggage. You can get ice at the hotel each morning.

Horizon (I think they are organic) milk boxes do not have to be refrigerated. I think they come in regular, vanilla and chocolate milk flavors. My kids have them from time to time when we are on the go and I can't keep milk in the fridge.
Most hotels will lend you a fridge though if they have one upon check in. Some charge a fee and others are free. It can't hurt to ask upon check in.

You can do the cooler with some ice, or request a small refrigerator from the hotel, or you can see if you can buy the small/single carton/bottle of milk as you need it. If I was you I would try now the powder milk and see if he likes it; that way you know if it'll work for you or not.
Enjoy your vacation!
Blessings

Can you work his 3 bottles around your meals and the last pick up a thing of milk at a store on the way back before you turn in for the night? Or what about a small cooler - i'm sure the hotel has an ice machine. I wouldn't do the formula personally because he may get used to it and not drink whole milk once your vacation is over. Good luck & have fun!

I also spent a few days in Orlando at a Hotel with no refrigerator. Does it have a kitchen? They were great at the hotel I stayed in. I would just go to the kitchen when she needed her milk and they would give me one of those small cartons of milk. Good Luck!

First call the hotel and see if they can put a mini fridge in the room for you. Usually for a small fee (we paid 10$ extra for the week) they can add a fridge. If not buy a good hard sided cooler (just big enough for a gallon of milk with some room to spare. All the hotels (I ever stayed at) have ice machines. Put the milk in and fill up with ice. Keeps it fine. We just dumped and filled the ice up 2 times a day (in am and right before bed.) It keeps it at a safe, cold temp and we had what we needed. 1 other option is if the cooler is big enough put the gallon jug in and make 3 bottles put them in too. Fill with ice. Then when LO needs a bottle you just pull 1 out and no need to fight with jug to get it back in the ice. Have a great vacation!!!

He doesn't need milk for a week - and definitely too old for formula.
The hotel should have an ice machine. So you could bring a little cooler and buy small milks and put them in the cooler and simply replenish the ice morning and night.

All you have to do is pick up or bring a medium sized cooler, fill it with ice and put a quart sized carton of milk in it, surrounded by ice. The milk will stay cold all day and your son will have the milk when he wants it. Throughout the day check to make sure the ice has not melted and if so drain off the water and add more ice.

They do make milk in single serve boxes (almost like a juice box) that does not need to be refrigerated...even comes in organic. Maybe that would help out your situation.
I've used this method with my kids when they were younger and we were travelling .

Have you tried the Horizon milk boxes (they look like juice boxes)? They are organic and do no have to be refridgerated. Most supermarkets carry them. Of course, if you are visiting any parks, you can usually buy milk there.
