Need a New Ob\gyn-2nd Miscarriage in 3 Months and No Support from Dr's Office

Can anyone recommend a great OB\GYN? I would prefer to stay in the West End and see a physician who has a competent staff and who isn't too busy return a phone call or get an appt in reasonable time.
I just had my 2nd m/c in 3 months and I don't feel like I am a priority at all to my Dr's office. My first m/c was a "missed" one, found out on my first ob appt that there was no heartbeat at 10 weeks and opted for a D&C. Had bloodwork drawn Wed and confirmed on Thurs that I was preg again. According to my LMP I was about 6 weeks along. I started what I tought was a m/c Fri am and had to leave 2 messages for Dr's nurse before she called me back at 4:00. She gave me no support and said that they were still waiting to get my HCG and progesterone counts and she wouldn't have results until Mon but if I started bleeding heavily it probably wasn't a good sign-no kidding! When we were getting off the phone she actually said "Have a good weekend", I just thought that was so insensitive! I am at my last straw with this office. It took me a week of leaving messages every day and then talking to the office manager to get an appiontment for a follow up after my D&C. It took the nurse 5 hours to call me back when I left 2 messages saying that I thought I was having a m/c, to me that should make it somewhere to the top of her "to do within the hour" list and it has taken them 5 days to get some simple bloodwork results back.
I know that there is nothing they can do to stop or prevent a m/c but I do expect some action on their part and I am not even getting a "sorry this is happening to you".
Sorry for the rambling vent but any advice you can lend will be appreciated!
K.

I love my doctor. I am currently pregnant with our third. Our second child was born with a very rare heart defect and my OB was the greatest - very sensitive to listening to me and answering questions. She even hooked me up with another mom that was going through the same thing. She is in the West End - at St. Mary's Hospital. Dr. Karen Knapp. ###-###-#### is their number. I've never had a problem with her or atleast her nurse calling me back fairly quickly. However, I know that she is pretty popular and don't know if she's excepting new patients. Anyone in her practice though, I've heard from friends is LOVELY!! Good Luck.

I know you said you wanted to stay in the Westend but the doctor I go to is wonderful. Its James River OB\GYN. The doctor I see is Dr. Smith. My best friend went to him to (after me) and she loved him. He's very laid back and will tell you anything you want to know. I've seen 2 doctors at this office and they are all very nice and willing to help.
Hope this helps you.

K.,

First, I am so sorry for what you're going through! Second -- don't fear, there are great doctors in Richmond.

I am a huge proponent of my OB, who I consider one of the best in the city. Dr. Christine Isaacs ###-###-####) works for MCV. She used to be at West End OB at Henrico Doctors, but switched about two years ago to teach. In a word, she's AMAZING. Here are some examples:

--When I was 14 weeks, I was so constipated I couldn't move. She called me every day, called a GI, called her BROTHER, who's a GI, everything. We finally found a treatment that worked, but she was so awesome about tending to me.

--I had a 36-hour back labor that was hellish. I was trying to go natural, and would have had the baby not been sunny-side up. I got to the hospital 24 hours in after excruciating contractions that whole time and I was only 3 cm. Any other dr would have given me a C-section. She stayed at the hospital an extra 24 HOURS past her shift, tried everything, and finally found something that worked so I could deliver vaginally. Honestly, have you ever heard of that?

She sees patients at the Stony Point office Tuesdays and Thursdays, and it's not that far -- just down Parham over the river. I loved delivering at MCV. Parking is a pain, but it was worth it for the medical care. Also, the nurses call you that day.

I hope this helps and GOOD LUCK!

J.

My OB is in Midlothian so I cannot really help you with a referral but I did want to say that I am so sorry you were treated so insensitively. The last few months have certainly been a trying time for you and I pray the coming months will bring you happier times. God bless. :-)
