My 7daughter has come home from school with with her 1st case of lice. These little bugs really gives me the *heebie jeebies*! I've tried everything I can find (RID, NIX, LICEaway) but every day I find more little eggs. I have an OCD problem and I STERILIZE my house and vacuum everyday and the bedding is hotwashed, bleached, hot dried x an hour at least twice a week. All stuffed animals in her room have been sealed in plastic bags and put in the attic.... I picked thru her head with a flashlight and the tinyiest lice comb they make for 18 hours this weekend alone in addition to the two prior treatments earlier in the week which lasted about three hours a piece....
I can't take this anymore. I'm exhausted and broke. Somebody please tell me theres a way to just get rid of these things before I. lose. my. mind.
Please ladies, I need help.
ps
the weirdest thing about this is that even though these little buggers seem to have THE WILL to live, no one else in my house has been affected. However, we were all treated also.

What can I do next?

Soak hair with olive oil then cover with a plastic shower cap for 3-4 hours, blowing drying with hot air every 30 minutes or so to heat up the oil. It will be messy but it will work!! You can sleep overnight in it but I did not.

Wash hair with Dawn dish soap or another soap made for cutting grease...you have to get the olive oil out somehow. Once washed, use a straight white vinegar rinse. Let the vinegar set on hair for about 5 minutes then wash as normal.

Not only will your hair be soft and clean as never before, but the lice will be gone. The oil clogs their breathing up and the vinegar eats away the glue they use to stick the hair follicle. My son had a bad case a few summers ago and I ended up with them as well. I had hair down to my mid back at that time so it was expensive but then I found this treatment and tried it out. It worked!!!

Before you try olive oil, mayo, vaseline, etc., try vinegar. I had lice while overseas in college and the locals recommended vinegar. I wish I had known that before I tried the olive oil & vaseline! That stuff was HORRIBLE to get out of my hair. I spent over an hour in the shower trying to get it out and it didn't help at all. Then, I heard about the local remedy of vinegar, held my head over the sink and poured it on and I could see the lice falling into the sink and down the drain. Ultimately, I had to get a prescription to keep them away. But, vinegar worked great just to get as much of them out as possible.

My 11 year old daughter brought them home from school earlier this year. We spent MONTHS and tons of money on the all the over the counter stuff, olive oil, blow drying, Vaseline, EVERYTHING. They would always come back. My husband didn't get them, my son didn't get them, I didn't get them, only my daughter. We changed her sheets daily, washed, sanitized, you name it, we did it (I am also OCD). Through tears I finally had to get a prescription from our doctor and one treatment knocked them out. I also ordered lice repellent shampoo and conditioner from Fairy Tails Hair Care. No trouble since then. Good Luck! You will eventually win the battle!

Don't forget to wash her jacket and tell her to make sure it never touches anyone elses jacket at school. When I taught, some teachers just let the kids pile their jackets together, but I always made mine keep theirs seperated in case one of them had lice.

Tea Tree Shampoo is also really good. My daughter caught them in 2nd grade and they would go away and then come back. This went on for almost 2 years. I did everything I knew of to get rid of them but they always came back. No one else in my family ever got them. Make sure she is not sharing brushes or hair clips with anyone at school. Also, make sure that after you treat her head, she is not using conditioner after you rinse the lice shampoo out. That counter acts the chemicals, making it ineffective. Soak her brush and comb in hot water with baking soda over night and then in the morning rinse it with the hottest water you can get. Finally what did it for me was I treated with Rid or Nix or something, I don't remember. I combed through her hair with the little comb for about 2 hours and then stuck her head in the sink. Took the sprayer and sprayed her head. Those little eggs came flying off!! I did that everyday for a week. After spraying, I would comb through again. Then every morning, I had her take a shower and use the Tea Tree oil shampoo. It worked. She has not had a problem for over a year. I am still paranoid about them though. I check her head constantly. Make sure she is not scratching because they will get under her fingernails. Then everytime she touches something, they get transferred to that surface, so all of the washing, sterilizing is for not. Good luck to you. I know lice is a pain in the a**!
