Need a Good Place for Boy's Haircuts in Western Oakland County

I have a 2 1/2 year old boy and every time I get his hair cut I tell the stylist that I want his hair long, just controlled looking. They all say, "OK." But it always ends up real short. Does anyone know somewhere that actually gives long cuts? Or the name of a style I can tell them I want? I want to learn to do it myself, but not sure how to learn, either. Anyone ever hear of a class for this? Thanks!

What can I do next?

Hi D., Do you have a picture of how you want his hair cut? And, where do you live? I live at the far western edge of Commerce Twp., near Wixom Road. I do have a cosmetology license, and love to cut hair, don't mind cutting kids hair, either. Both of my younger daughters are licensed cosmetologists, too. J.

Yeah , I have this problem, too. I started cutting their hair myself. I was scared at first, but it seems to not only be working out, but saving me a lot of money, too. My problem wasn't my stylist. Her name is Sam LeValley, and she is at Violet's Salon across from Great Lakes Crossing on Baldwin. She gave the boys a haircut, and it turned out really good. My only issue became that the boys really hate going to beauty salons, and they don't want their hair cut period.
In general, I trim to the length I want, I usually layer it somewhat by cutting at an angle and then I take the hair between my fingers and point the scissors up so that they are just thinning out the hair and not making it look like I just gave them a page boy cut. I think it is hard to explain, but I saw that technique on TV once, and it seems to work.
I kind of miss just going to the barber and telling them to "shave it!"

Try Walnut Lake Barber on Walnut Lake Road at Inkster. I've been taking my son there since he was a toddler.

D.,

My girlfriend found a book called Haircutting for Dummies (or something close) at the library. Used it to cut her own hair. Swear it was one of her best cuts. Sounds like you have received a lot of other good advice too. Good luck. :o)

I had the same problem for my boys and finally found a great gal.
Her name is Anne and she works at Wixom Hair Care ###-###-####.
I get my hair done by her as well and highly recommend her.
Hope this helps!
