Need a GOOD Dentist for My Son

My 7yo is a little (ok, very) difficult when it comes to the dentist. We recently went to the dentist for a cleaning, and the dentist refused to finish the exam/x-rays because he wouldn't hold still. I was not in the room, because they would not allow me to be because I had my 10wk old son. Now I am going to a pediatric dentist specialist that my current dentist recommended to finish the exam. He is complaining of molar issues.

Anyone have any good dentists they use with their 'difficult' child?

What can I do next?

I hated to go to the dentist. I have had several bad experiences. So many that I didn't even go to the dentist for several years! I finally found one that is wonderful with people. She is a young mom and is good with the kids too. She had another young lady with her who seems to be good too. Good Luck! I have 3 boys too-all grown up now. You'll survive!

You didn't say where you live, but I see Dr. Larry Liesen in Geneva. I've been seeing him since my daughter was really young (she's in her mid 20's now), and she loved him back then. She was a very cooperative patient, though, so I don't have any experience with "difficult" children, but he does have sons of his own in that age range.

Dr. Rita Tamulis-Shea in Joliet is great. My son won' let anyone touch him, but he loves Dr. Rita!

I really like Dr. Khurana at Valley View Denatal in Romeoville. Great with kids. The other thing is, have you thought about having your hubby take him. Sometimes kids like to put a show on for MOm.

I live in Oswego but we travel to Wheaton to see Dr. Jay G. Kolb with Grove Dental Associates. He is a pediatric dentist which I wanted for my kids - that is his specialty. It is about 45 minutes to get to this dentist, but I don't want to move b/c the kids don't mind going to the dentist at all!

Also, I have 2 dental insurances, and any other (pediatric) dentist office I have called has expected payment upfront, or at least partial payment. Grove Dental knows that I have 2 insurances, which normally covers 100% between the two, so they never ask for a payment. That may be petty, but with 3 kids, even a partial payment (that I would not owe!) can be a burden....

So, I like Dr. Kolb and the kids love him -- so we've stuck with him, even though there is a bit of travel involved.

I have heard (and know friends that love) Dr. Jones in Naperville.
