Need a Dumpster

My husband and I are getty ready to do a major overhaul on our house. Clean up the backyard and toss anything and everything we don't want in the house. I have been trying to price different places that bring dumpsters to your house but none of the have a set price. This scares me. I don't want to get one and then have a huge bill afterwards. I would prefer to use places that recycle but any references would be great!

What can I do next?

If you are really interested in recycling, there are some alternatives to a dumpster. We donate to thrift stores a lot. Some places will even pick things up. Big Brothers Big Sisters picks up donated items periodically in our neighborhood. You can also write off your donations on your taxes. My husband says that it makes more sense financially to donate items to a charity thrift store than to have a garage sale. Also, if you have structural things like tiles, tubs, windows, etc., you can take them to Habitat Restore (by World's of Fun). They will resell it cheap and use the profit for building homes for Habitat for Humanity.

Call some of the trash services. My husband and I did that last summer and we used Platte Valley Sanitation. They had a set price on two different size dumpsters. Good luck.

Just wondered if you know about freecycle.org. Keeping stuff out of the landfills and gifting others one gift at a time is their deal. I have even gotten an awesome kitten and gotten rid of a lot of stuff.

I don't know who you have for a trash service; but we were also looking into a dumpster and we found that for different items had to be put in different dumspters, which meant we'd need multiple ones; we just called our trash service and asked if we could have a "bulk" pickup and they charged us for the extra amount, at the most it was $60 more and we completely renovated my in laws basement so we had a lot of construction stuff..it might be worth a check with them it might be a slightly cheaper way to go, especially if the work is going to be a on going process, most times you cna only have the dumpster for a week then you have to pay extra. GOod Luck!

A.,

My husband and I used Huntley Disposal for our tear out of a 1914 farm house and used 10 dumpsters (several 40 yrd, a couple of 12 yrd and 8 yrd.) They have set prices (and were the most reasonable) and were very flexible. ###-###-####.
Good luck on your house work!

We used one to tackle the same job! I called UHAUL-IT and they charged $200.00 for a week. They are in the yellow pages. They will tell you all that can not go into the bin. I think they have different sizes, but we used the 4" high, and 12" long. Very good to work with.

Hope that helps!

Try Ted's

We have used them several times for yard and home remodeling/cleanup. You have to specify what size you want. I think we used a 20 yard dumpster for 1 week and it cost around $200-$250. They were very friendly and the least expensive of all the places I called. I don't know if they recycle. Good Luck:)

Hi A.,

We noticed the other day that Home Depot offers these. We are going to be doing the samething and just happen to see it. I don't know how much it is as we haven't checked into it yet but I thought I would pass it along.
