I know that you said that you do not want to go to a chiropractor, but I began seeing one a few weeks ago and my back is SOOO much better than it has been in years. He does adjustments only if really needed, but focuses more on the actual mechanics and muscles and helps you to learn about the underlying conditions that cause your pain.

If you are interested, his name is Dr. Eric Lukosus, and his office is at Illinois Spinal and Sports Rehabilitation on Rte 59 in south Naperville. It's about a 30 min drive for me, but it's SOO worth it and I can't believe how effective his guidance and treatments have been. http://www.spinalandsportsrehab.com/

chiropractic is recognized by the American Medical Association and thus eligible for insurance reimbursement. I've never been - wanted to, but I want to make sure, like any other doctor, I get a good one.

Have you asked your family physician about physical therapy?

My other recommendation is acupuncture. I was referred to acupuncture during chemotherapy, but because few list it as their primary specialty (many are allergists who train for acupuncture certifications), we couldn't find one anywhere in the Indianapolis area on my insurance's plan. Had we found one, it would have been covered up to 12 sessions per medical diagnosis.

Good luck. It sounds like you need to get a proper diagnosis before selecting what kind of specialist will best treat your condition.

do you have a diagnosis? If you do and are specific us Mama's may have some advice on what worked for us. Personally I had a terrible bout with degenerative disk and improved beyond my wildest dreams with exercise and specific vitamins and herbs.

The only things that have worked for my back are chiropractic and massage together, and when in extreme pain I've had nerve blocks done by a physiatrist. I also liked craniosacral work done by a physical therapist. But after getting past the worst pain one chiropractic visit does the trick! What makes you not want to go to one? They specialize in spinal health, that's who I trust the most with my back. If you had a bad experience find another one that you feel comfortable with.

You're not in my area so I can't suggest anyone in particular. I will say that I always felt more comfortable about back manipulation from an osteopathic doctor rather than a chiropractor. I had trouble with a bulging disk for several years. While the chiropractor helped, what finally fixed things for me was an acupuncturist! Craniosacral therapy may also work well for you, but most health care plans won't cover it.

I am not in your state, but I can tell you that you need to see a Rofler. It is so rare and you may not have any in your area, but it is so well worth it.
