Ok about two months ago my little guy slept through the night for the first time at about 8 months. I don't think I moved the whole entire night- when I woke up my neck makes a clicking sound. It's way up by the top of my skull, it drove me crazy for awhile but now I am just kind of frustrated because it still is there. I have gone to a dr, he said it was nothing serious that was about it, then I went to a chiropractor she said it was a pulled muscle and it may take several months to be better. I don't have insurance so it's costing me 50 bucks every time I go see the chiropracto (she wants me to keep coming) but I don't feel anything is changing. When I sleep at night my shoulders and neck get EXTREMLY tight and I have to try to massage it out evey morning. I am really thinking of NOT going back to the chiropractor (she basically just pops a few things each time ) and trying a massage, any ideas on this anyone ever had an issue like this. The clicking does not hurt but my back being tight for two months is really weird

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

SIX months after the clicking started, multiple chiropractor visits, two doctors visits, about five different pillows and the clicking went away! I also started exercising honestly nothing seems to have been the "cure all" but one chiropractor said I had probably strained a muscle and it would just take time. I never thought that meant 6 months but am so thankful for the clicking to be gone.

My chiro does the adjustments and then has us do physical therapy to strengthen other muscles around the effected area.

You are worth it, if it helps.

I would think massage would help work out the kinks.. but pay atten during the day what you are doing, how you are siting .. holding the baby you might me "re inuring it"?

I hope the pain goes away soon.

Find a reputable rolfer in your area. Rolfing seriously changed my life. I lived with pain every day for 8 years and tried everything from shots, to muscle relaxers to massage to adjustments and rolfing has completely erased all of my pain! There are usually 10 sessions at around 100 dollars each but I just completed session 9 with no pain since I started. The process itself is a little painful while you are being worked on, but the results are amazing.

I'd try Aspercream and keep a heating pad on it as much as possible.
Try some slow easy stretches - shoulders up to your ears and down, slow neck rolls, windmill your arms forward and backward (like you were doing a swimming back stroke).
You can also try a cup of Epsom salts in a hot bath and soak for a long time.

I have been having this same issue for quite some time now. Years, actually. I'll have a long, long time when I'll have no problems whatsoever, then my neck will start clicking. Sometimes, my neck clicks so hard and so fast, it really, really hurts! I have told my chiropractor about it; he says there's not much he can do about it. That it sounds like I have some extra "air" in my spine once in a while and that it just clicks (I believe that was his explanation). I was in a car accident in college in which I experienced severe whiplash; he thinks it could have come from that. He always takes a look at that part of my spine when he adjusts me, but in my case, he can't really find a cause or a solution. Good luck.
