I have a 2 1/2 and 1 year old. We are leaving in the morning (6/22) on a 4 hour plane ride. I think I have everything, but do you have any suggestions on things to take to keep them occupied, in case I forgot!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I took all the suggestions, but the boys slept for 2 hours, and watched the DVD player the rest of the time....Actually on the way back 1 action figure was played with. It went well, I'm not gonna complain about over packing!! Better safe than sorry!!

What do you do at home for 4 hours? Just take those things. Snacks (something chewy for ear popping), toys, coloring books, books to read to them, blankets for a nap if they get sleepy. Enjoy your trip.

Don't forget the constipation medicine or dried fruit. Kids get backed up and cranky on trips just like adults do. Also, you can gently drug your kids with some benedryl so they sleep through the trip. Talk to your doctor about it to get the correct dosage first. My toddler gets too cranky for toys and distractions when we travel so sleep is the only way to get through it.

I have found that bringing some favorite books to read, coloring books (Crayons included!), and a travel size magna-doodle or etch-a-sketch works wonders! Also, just a small pad of plain paper for drawing is a favorite too. I packed in my carry on some snacks, like teddy grahams, which travel well...or fruit roll ups. My youngest is now 3 1/2, but we flew when he was 2 1/2, and these tricks worked for me! Let us know how it goes, and have a safe and fun trip!

The best things Ive taken on a plane for my almost 3 year old are snacks,"new" toys-spend 10 or 15 bucks at the dollar store for cheapies-its well worth it! and give the oldest a peice of gum to chew for take off and the youngest a bottle or sippy. Other than that my daughter likes to take her pillow/small blanket. The next trip we go on Im buying a little DVD player cause I kow that will keep her calm for a good hour...lol. Good luck :)

We're leaving tomorrow for a 2 and 1/2 hour plane ride with our almost 2 year old twins. We are taking some paper and crayons, their favorite drawing pad (Elmo and Cookie Monster), AquaDoodle draw and go, some favorite soft books, some snacks (including suckers for take off and landing), sippy cups, their silkies (small blankets), a favorite stuffed animal each. We are having them sit on our laps so I plan to do lots of lap games like itsy bitsy spider, pat a cake, shake the sillies out..., they also like when we write their names and draw shapes on their backs so that should keep them occupied for a while. I'm taking a few little people toys too. It is hard to find things they love but don't make noise or that I won't mind terribly if they get lost. I'll be interested to see your responses. Maybe I can get more ideas. Have a great trip!

My boys (now 12 & 14) use to love to color when we went on trips. Make sure you have some snacks that they like. You can't bring drinks through security but I have seen people bring empty cups for their kids and then fill them up once they pass security. There is no problem bringing food on the plane and that seemed to be a big help when my kids were little.
Hope this helps
