Looking for a new vehicle and wondering what people that have navigation esp on toyota vehicle think about it after the 3 yr warranty is out. So if you have a 2007-2009 vehicle is your navigation up-to-date? Do you have to update navigation systems? Is this something covered in the 3yr warranty period and then on your own after that? I just hate to get something that in 3 years will tell me "your map is out of date please update" everytime I turn on the car. So please let me know if you have navigation and what have to do (or if nothing??) to keep it updated. TIA
decided to go without nav. even at dealership had several tell me that many had had their nav go out and since it also controls your A/C and radio you couldn't do without it and is nearly $3K to replace! no thanks. And truthfully on my normal driving I know where I'm going so don't really need it.
I have a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica, the navigation needs to be updated, but I'm not paying $300 for the update, so I use my phone when the in dash navigation doesn't recognize where I'm going.
I have a Ford Edge and the update is about 150. You don't really have to update it every year but anthing older then about 5 years may be missing some streets and new highway construction although for the most part you should be able to get around quite well. No the warranty will not cover any updates. You should have instructions in your owners manuel to get your updates or call your dealership for the number and address of the company that services your GPS.
My BF has a 2010 Lexus - it's a nice screen. But if the you car is moving, it locks up and you can't adjust it.
He husband has a 2012 Sequoia Platinum and not problems. He HAD a Toyota Highlander prior to this - I think it was a 2007 and they no problems with it.
I have a Honda Odyssey now (as of Sunday) and I don't have GPS on mine even though it's a Touring edition - I have a Garmin.
Different manufacturers do different things, and it also depends on the year of the car. Some update via a new CD (which can be a few hundred dollars), some are a software update, and I think some update automatically via satellite. The navigation would never just stop working because it needed an update but at the most you would need to spend a few hundred dollars if you noticed that many of the roads were not accurate. I personally do not update mine because I don't really see a need to do so very often, if something in an area is new usually you can still find a way to get there. I say go for it, really not a big deal :)
I have a 2012 Ford Fusion and the navigation isn't only up to date, but the screen is large and easy to follow. I LOVE it! Check out Ford!
Do you have a smart phone with a map app? Just use that. I've never seen a nav system in a car in use, so I don't know what the big selling point is. If you have it on your phone, it's the same thing and you've already paid for it on the phone.
Don't know about Toyota, but my husband's Jeep has navigation that still works though he never paid for the update. I think it was about $300 to buy the update.
I don't have an answer b/c we purchased a Toyota Highlander and it had every damn single option - except the in dash GPS. For $2,300.
We skipped it. Figured if we ever wanted GPS, they only cost a couple hundred for a super nice one. Haven't gotten that yet either....
it would be more beneficial for you to just get navigation on a smart phone. Or get one of those removable types suction to your windshield. I find the smartphone much easier and more afordable in terms of having all the bells and whistles for about $30 more a month.
