Pediacare worked pretty well for my son when he was about that age. He had a cough for months and Dr's were no help anyway. The medicine relieved it for him so he could sleep and be a little more comfortable
I have a 5 1/2 month old little girl who has had a cough for about 4 days now. It has gotten worse instead of better and I think she needs to take something to help her out. Is there anythything natural or over the counter you all would suggest to help get rid of her cough? I would like to stay away from the Dr. and RX's if possible. The cough is wet and starting to sound like a croup.
Thanks for the help!

I remember my little one ALWAYS got sick around that age. It is safest to check with the doctor on dosages for OTC cold or cough meds however I use a Vick's warm mist humidifier. It has a spot for the medicine on the ouside of the humidifier for congestion and cough. As a matter of fact we have been using it for the last few nights. It really helps. I purchased them at Wal-Mart. Hope this helps.
Hi A.,
I am into holistic health care remedies myself..my holistic health care practioner has always recommended to dry up the drainage that is causing the cough...she always recommends dye-free infant/childrens benadryl...for your daughter I would probably only give her 1/4 of a teaspoon in her dropper every 4 to 6 hrs., but always read the packaging.
Also keep her propped up during her naptime and bedtime to help with the drainage.
This is one my Grandma used with us years ago. take an onion and slice it as if you were going to put it on a hamburger, but instead place it on a plate next to the head of the bed where your little girl is sleeping. I used this with my own kids and still use it today for myself. there is something in the onion smell that calms the cough. you can also place the onion in a small cloth bag and place it under her shirt at night as well. Give it a try and see if it works for you, it's worked for me over 40 yrs.
Ihave found that the SudaCare Vapor Plugs work very well with my kids. You can use them in addition to the humidifier which is also a must. At 5 1/2 months, there is very little that she can take safely that is OTC. If you do think it's croup, you need to get her to the Dr ASAP, because croup is an indication of a constricted airway. She might need steroids or at least a breating treatment to relieve the swelling and help her breathe. With all of the rain and strange weather that we have been having, it is liely that the cough began as an allergic reaction. However, it can still turn out to be something she needs medical attention for.
There are some great home remedies on this page http://www.naturalfamilyonline.com/go/index.php/45/natura...
Just remember that honey can be very bad for babies under 12 months. So skip those remedies!! God luck, A.!
Just watch out children can still get RSV in the summer monthes. Natraul remides would be a vapor bath, baby vapor rub, and a humitifier.
Vicks vapo steam may help.... it helps mine.
I've used Musenix and a humidifier to assist. Keep the house cool also.
Hi A.
With a little on that young I would feel it be safer to taker her to a Doctor, you want to make sure the problem is dianogised properly and the dosage is correct. There is a lot of OTC meds she can not take being so young... Good luck with choice you make.
