We are pregnant with our second child and I am interested in giving birth natural--no drugs or anything. I've checked the bradly method but instructors are a bit of drive. We live in Bedford. I've been through lamaze class with my sister's child at Arlington Memorial Hospital,this is where we are giving birth this time, and did not find the class useful---waste of money and time.
Can anyone recommend a place that teach lamaze or natural child birth in the midcities or surrounding areas--like: Grapevine,Irving,Las Colinas.
We are due in January so I need to get a move on it.

Sorry, I don't know of any classes you can take, I didn't take any. I just wanted to say congrats on the new baby and good luck on the natural birth. I had both my boys at home, no drugs, and loved it. It's hard, but sooo worth it.
I went through a natural childbirth with my daughter at a Birth Center in Garland, and it was amazing. There is a doula that they work with who gives childbirth classes and if you'd like, message me back and I'll give you her information.
Call Cindy Haggerton or email from website http://www.family-wellness.com/. They now have a full fledged birthing center on premisis & are located at the Hurst/ B'ford line off of Hurstview. I am pretty sure she can direct you. Bradley is great, but not the only thing in town. I agree about hospital birthing classes. I renamed them "How to breathe until you get your epidural"- not very useful for those wanting a natural experience.

I have given birth at Arlington Memorial 4 times. The last two I had no pain medicine because it effects me the wrong way. It was 6 1/2 years between my 2nd and 3rd child. So with my 3rd child I went through the full coarse, not the refresher one. I found it to be very helpful to learn the breathing. I had to be induced with him and had a very short labor. I think it was due to no meds. My other two were very long. With my 4th child 2 1/2 years later (she is going to be 6 next month) I can't remember but I may have done the refresher class. Her labor was less than an hour. Again, no meds. One thing I can tell you is that my coach, my husband, was the reason I was able to make it through. I also let my body push when I felt it even when they didn't think I should. They were both fine and came really quickly. My husband helped me to breath through the part I needed to and helped me focus. That is the main thing that will help, no matter what class you take.
I am sorry I don't have any other places to take classes but thought I would share what I do know from experience. I wish you well at this exciting time. Get you a CD that is comforting and start playing it now while you are resting and relaxing during the day. Then play it while in labor. Remember to push repeat all or you will do like me and the CD will end and no one will remember to turn it back on, lol.

I had my son at Baylor Grapevine and had no drugs. I "HATE" needles. I don't care if I can see it or not. I didn't think it was that bad, but they broke my water at 10:20am and baby was out at 3:55pm. I read a few books and had my mind made up I was not having drugs. It worked for me , but is not for everyone.

There is a birthing center in Grand Prarie (I had my first son there) who does classes they are designed for people who are giving birth there/at home, but they do (or, did) offer them to couples who are having hospital births. I don't remember the cost. Lots of great information though, I went three times (with three seperate births, of course, haha). Check out mothermedoulas.com. They are a doula service and offer several classes that you can take, at locations throughout the metroplex. Talk to Brenda Shumway, she will help you!
You can take the childbirth classes at the hospital, but for natural labor and childbirth, it's sort of irrelevant because they talk about c-sections, epidurals, etc. You will need a class teaching you how to cope with the pain in other ways. If nothing else, get yourself an exercise ball! I used it throughout my labor and it helped SO much.
I gave birth naturally at HEB in Bedford. I managed to do most of my labor at home and it was GREAT.
