I'd have her drink more water. It could be dehydration or dry skin.
My 5 year old has nasal congestion frequently and at times it can turn into an infection that requires an antibiotic. Sometimes when she gets nasal congestion, her cheeks get red. We thought she may be having an allergic reaction to something. The pediatrician recently sent my daughter to have blood drawn for allergy testing. All tests (trees, animals, nuts, shellfish, etc.) came back negative, but she keeps getting nasal congestion and red cheeks. Has anyone experienced this or know what might cause it when allergy testing is negative?
Thank you all for your responses! I greatly appreciate it!
I took my daughter to the pediatrician yesterday and she has another ear and sinus infection. The pediatrician gave her an antibiotic and wants to wait three weeks to see if she gets another infection. If she does, we're off the an ENT Specialist. I'm still not sure if this current infection is what caused her cheeks to turn bright red, but my daughter has had at least 3 ear/sinus infections in the past 3 months. She did not get bright red cheeks with her other recent infections. I am pretty sure that we will end up at the ENT Specialist, but I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Dear Biz E Mama,
Some thoughts:
1. could the red cheeks come from blowing her nose with a rough tissue? We use the kleenex ones with aloe and vitamin e for our son's constant stuffy nose?
2. I see you live in Nevada. COuld it be the dry air both irritates your daughter's sinuses and your daughter's skin??? Why not thus try a cold air humidifier in her room to keep both her skin and sinuses moist.
3. Lastly, I would put some aquaphor or other simple emollient cream on her cheeks before she goes to sleep.
Hope this helps.

Lots of kids have allergies or sensitivity to dust and other environmental factors - the backing of carpets, the foam in the couch cushions, and do on.
You can do a lot nutritionally to boost the immune system and eliminate these things. I used to have this all the time - could never breathe right, couldn't sleep at night and so on. I tried all the meds - spent a lot of money and didn't get a lot of relief. But I haven't had an allergy problem in over three years, and I haven't been sick, had a cold or gotten bronchitis (which I used to get 3-4 times a year). It's so much better this way!
Phenols could be causing the redness- fruits, dyes, etc. For nasal congestion have you ever stopped all dairy and casein for a week or more? That is a big one as well as wheat.
If you find that it is a food allergy such as dairy, soy, wheat, yeast, egg know that these are also ingredients in vaccines so do your research before she gets anymore shots.
Make sure she does not have an ear infection. My son is currently sick and has bronchitis and an ear infection which I caught early. He gets red checks when he gets sick or congested. Sometimes,it is caused by fever. Is she on any type of decongestant? You can give her zyrtec for kids. It works great. Try it and see if it helps out.
I"m wondering if adult teeth are coming down...... I only have a two year old but these symptoms sounds like teeth issues in littler ones. Wondering if it's possible that it could be the same for your child. I could be out of my mind but just something to consider. Maybe a trip to the dentist?
