Narrow Booster Seats???

Hi - I am shortly going to need to fit 2 booster seats and one infant seat across the back of my car. All the booster seats are so wide that the kids have to practically reach behind the seat to click the belt in to it's latch. Since I'm pregnant and getting larger every day, it is turning into a real pain trying to reach between the seats to snap the belts in every time. Does anyone have any suggestions (other than buying a new car?). Do buckle extensions exist which bring the buckle out further? or are there narrower booster seats available? I'd appreciate any advice on this. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Hi H.,
I know you want advice on booster seats without mentioning buying a new car, but that would be my advice. Buy a new car like a Mini Van, or a SUV with a third seat. The reason being, is because when you cram your children, three of them, in the back of your car trying to fit boosters, car seat, and having seat belt extensions, makes for an unsafe vehicle to ride in. If you have a tight squeeze with your boosters and car seat, then your seat belts won't have enough room to react like they should if you were in an accident. Best wishes,G.

There is a very narrow booster seat called a Radian. I think it is made by Sunshine Kids. Search online. I found lots of advice about car seats on a car seat forum via the toddler bargains site but I am not at home so I can't send you the link.

hope you get some good answers :)

H.,

My mom and dad had to oreder a seat belt extender from the dealership. They didn't charge for them, as they are a safety measure in the vehicle. We ordered from the Chevy dealership...if you have a Ford you would need to go to a Ford Dealership, etc. I beleive they come in 6 in. and 9 in. lengths. The nice thing is that if it is too long, you can actually tie a knot in the material and it will shorten the length of the extender to better fit your needs. Hope this helps!

How much does your 6-year old weigh? If she weighs over 40 lbs she could use a no-back booster seat. They cost $20 at Target and you can also change the fabic too. That should help out with some spacing issues.

BTW, you could also get a convertible one that changes to a no-back for your 3-year old. The are more narrow than regular car seats.

My husband & I went looking at boosters a couple of weeks ago. One of the seats we looked at was the Graco Turbobooster. Of the seats we looked at, it was the narrowest. Among other reasons, we ended up getting the Graco with the EPS memory foam. They're the same width as the cheaper Graco boosters, but definately padded nicer. As an aside, if you do look into these, the Turboboosters come in many different patterns. A lot of them are quite ugly , but there are a few with the memory foam that are nice. Hope this helps. Good luck with whatever you decide.
