Congrats on your new son! And good job with the sleep training! I have 4 boys and trained all of them as well! And they are all wonderful sleepers! Kudos to you for teaching him the art of sleeping! You are now enjoying the fruits of your efforts - so just enjoy them while they last! As he grows, he will probably not sleep as much during the day, but for a 5 month old, he sounds like he is right on track with where he should be. For your peace of mind, remember that he will only sleep as much as he needs, so don't worry about it at all! Keep up the good work and enjoy every moment! They grow up soooo fast! Happy mothering!!

Hi V.,
Congratulations on making the choice of wanting your baby to get a healthy amount of sleep at an early age. Studies are beginning to suggest that healthy sleep patterns as an infant reduce the chances of ADHD in school-aged children.

Both my boys were sleeping through the night (10-11 hrs a night) before they were 3 months old, it was work, but well worth it. They also continued to take naps throughout the day.

Everyone always says I have the happiest kids they've ever met.

Great job, parents!

Ha! Too much sleep is a good problem to have :) Some kids need more than others and some kids need less. All 4 of my kids slept 12 hours at night and they all took 2-3 hour naps during the day from about 6 months-3 1/2 years. As they get older, they sleep less.....so enjoy!

I say as long as he's able to stick to the routine, let him sleep. If it get that he's not going to bed as easily or waking up earlier than you need him to, you can rethink the naptimes during the day and adjust accordingly. Just watch him for signs. You know your baby better than anyone else.

My ll mos sleeps 10-12 hours per night and 2-3hour naps in the am and afternoon. I asked my pediatrician if he was sleeping too much and he laughed at me. He said they sleep as much as they need too. They do all of there growing while they're sleeping. And if he plays intensley then he will need longer naps than a child who isn't as intense.........hope it helps!
