Hi I have a Eleven month old son, who used to take two naps during the day. For the past three weeks he will not sleep if placed inside his crib. I know he is transitioning to one nap. But as of now he wont take any unless he is laying with someone else. I don't know what to do or why this is happening. I have tried to let him "cry it out" but he continued to cry for a very long time. Which completely broke my heart. He will fall asleep while being held but as soon as we place him in his crib he pops right back up. Thank you for anyone with any help. I am currently trying the tshirt on the teddy bear for my smell. So far no good. He is exhausted.

Don't know if it's much help, but I remember laying down with my DS during naps for, well, until he didn't need me to anymore. We would lay down and when he fell asleep, I would slink out of the room. I would also sometimes pack up some snacks for myself and a couple magazines and we would go for a drive. After he fell asleep, I would head to the park and park in a shady spot and let him sleep.

My dd did this every time she was teething. Try Tylenol, frozen washcloths and extra tlc. Teething tablets never worked for us but are worth a try. I think he's a little young for one nap but some kids do transition early.

When does he sleep at night? How does he go to sleep at night? What are his naptimes? What is his sleep environment/bedroom like?

Before I help answers to these questions would be most helpful.

Go to www.3daysleep.com and get Davis Erhler's video. It's quick and easy to follow. My babies sleep 12hr/night b/c of her and they nap great. I know all babies are different but you will get some excellent sleeping tips from her. It'll be the BEST $39.00 you ever spend! :) Good luck!!

Hi C.
I went through the same thing with my son and he eventually grew out of it. I spent many months napping with him because it was the only way he would sleep. So many people said it was bad but I too tried letting him cry and 30-45 minutes felt like a lifetime and I just couldn't do it. So we napped together and then just one day I tried putting him down and it worked. I definitely had to put him down, rub his back until he fell asleep and then sneak out. We did that for a while and then he finally went down for a nap by himself awake and put himself to sleep. He's 2 1/2 now and still is napping that way. Good luck. I say do what feels right. If you have the time to nap with your child and it feels right then I'd say do it.

when are you putting him down for a nap in the morning or afternoon. when my daughter was in transition with naps i would put her down in between the 2 times. she would go down at 10 then again at 2 or 3. so i started and still put her down after her lunch at 12. i found that after lunch with her belly full she fell asleep a little quicker. does he take a bottle or cup to bed with him? my daughter took a cup to bed untill about 22 months i think is when i cut her off. try to find a way to teach him to self soothe himself. my daughter has patted herself since about 5 months. even still if shes nervous tired or upset and we pick her up she pats us. this is a tough time for your baby he is either not tired or over tired which can cause the crying. take it one day at a time. good luck!

My boy did the same thing. I would stay with him until he fell asleep and then I sneak him into the crib or just leave him on the bed and sneak out of the room.
