Once in a while children have a "bad" night, but they bounce right back. Shots can make them a little unconfortable and oftentimes feverish. It is normal, first time mommy.
Hi!
My daughter has been sleeping good for the last few nights but last night was bad she was up for 1-2hrs, nursing and then not wanting to sleep she had to be held to go back to sleep. However, now she is going on a 4 hr nap. She got shots today too, but should she sleep this long even if she had a bad night. Also I am so uptight right now everytime I lay down to relaz I think I hear her crying and I get up to check on her. It needs to stop, I could really use a normal nap.

at that age i always just let them sleep and wake when they wanted. if he woke in the night i was tired during the day and if he napped during the day i was relieved to have a little alone time. both of my kids starting sleeping consistently through the night at six months and that was also when they developed their own eating and napping schedule.
relax. take a few moments to yourself.
you are doing a great job.
Shots can make her sleepy as well as not getting a good nights sleep last night. At her age I wouldn't worry about a 4 hour nap. Just try to keep to your normal routine for bedtime and hopefully she'll get back on track.
I was...still am, paranoid when my kids sleep. The best thing I ever did was invest in a good video monitor. I can see and hear them perfectly without having to constantly go and check on them. It's a lifesaver for me and ensures I get to relax or sleep when I really need it!
Hi!
You didn't say if you were in a routine before hand. hopefully there is, if not that might be something to intiate that can help long term. "Health Sleep Habits Happy Child" is the best book ever. Babies won't oversleep...long naps are great as long as they are not too close to bed time (that will disrupt a sleep pattern). A big day like shots as well as teething or a cold can inturrupt a sleep pattern for a few days and if you roll with it it will work itself out.
You getting your needed rest is equally important! I could never wind down easily. Some things that helped me were: putting baby in bouncer (before her bottle/nap)and either taking a bath, shower or doing some yoga; then i fed her and put her down for a nap, made myself a cup of tea and layed down for a nap. i had to put the baby monitor next to my ear to feel secure that i would hear her. At night I also went to be when she did (yes at 7pm). the house was a bit of a mess and we ate off paper plates for about 5 months but it kept us happy campers which in the end is all that matters!
thank you for taking care of our country and Good Luck and congrats on all your blessings!
First off, maybe you should get a baby monitor so you would know for sure if she's crying.
Second, my boys have ALWAYS been good sleepers and they take anywhere from a 2-4 hour nap everyday. If they don't, they're cranky before bedtime and don't sleep well during the night. Babies and Toddlers need about 12 hours of sleep a day.
It is probably just the shots.
If this a a problem that lasts longer than just for the shots I can not say how much having a routine has helped us! It has made our lives a thousand times easier. I started a routine with my daughter when she was about 6 weeks old. She is will be 3 months old on monday and she sleeps for 12-14 hours each night and then takes about 4 different hour long naps during the day. My main priority is making sure we start bathtime by 6:30, then we do a little baby massage, nurse her, and then put her to bed by 7. That way my husband and I get a little time to ourselves and I can still get 8-10 hours of sleep myself. I know someone already mentioned it but "Healthy sleep habits..happy child" is an amazing book!! I know many people that have sworn by it and their children are great sleepers even now that they are over 1 or 2 years old.
I also agree with others saying buy a good monitor. Ever since we moved our daughter into her own room I get a little parnoid about her at night. but I know I will hear her if she needs anything.
Hope that helps! Never be afraid to ask for help. Have your fiance watch the baby for a few hours while you get a nap or have a family member or close friend stop by...moms need to remember to take care of themselves so that they can take care of their families. Also I can reccomend get some exercise and make sure you are eating right..it won't make up for lack of sleep but it will help you to feel better.
She probably just didn't feel well last night. The shots r making her sleepy today... I wouldn't let here sleep over 1 1/2 hrs for a nap during the day... Try giving her Tylenol at nite if she wont sleep...

M., you need to get yourself a baby monitor. Getting up because you think you hear her crying only to find that she's fine is going to wear you out. Baby monitors do not have to be expensive...mine was around $40.
Shots will induce a baby, especially a 4 month old, into sleep. She may have had a temperature, which shots typically will produce and the shots combined with a fever will make a child more sleepy. You say she was up and wanting to nurse. She could be teething AND/OR perhaps going through a growth spurt. The discomfort of teething DOES make babies want to nurse more often. Remember, nursing is not only for food. It provides comfort and it is very possible that she's teething. With a growth spurt, a baby will typically need to nurse more than usual but it usually lasts a few days.
As for your baby taking long naps and not sleeping well through the night, it is possible that her afternoon naps are taken too late in the day. I have 3 children and I never allowed them to nap past 3:30 P.M. just to ensure that they go to sleep at a reasonable hour (8-9 P.M.) It sounds like she may be taking a late nap and it's interferring with her night time sleep. Stop allowing her to sleep past 3:30 P.M. and see if that helps.
Honey, you need to relax. The baby feeds off your energy and your stress is her stress. Do you have a stroller, a park to walk through, a friend or family member to help you out? The recent immunization hurts her butt. A cold compress (a simple washcloth put in the freezer and then applied) will help; but not if it's several days ago...unless there is still swelling. In that case, call your pediatrician and explain to the staff the situation. Ask if they recommend a dose of infant tylenol
My 6 year old still takes 4 hour naps.:>) Yes, espcially after shots she may need to sleep more. It may or may not have anything to do with being awake last night. You'll need to get used to this kind of thing :>) Babies do this stuff all the time! I should know. I've had 4.
Goe Bless!
Sometimes the shots will effect them this way. Dont worry, Im sure she is fine. If she isnt back to herself in 48 hours ring the docs office for some advice and reassurance
Probably the shots. At this age, let her sleep as she will. She is an infant and their sleeping habits are irregular now. The best thing I did was learn to nap when the baby was napping. I was not as cranky and tired and I could be more attentive without irritability. It will all balance itself out sooner or later.
My babies always took a long nap after shots. I would give them Tylenol before hand and they would take 3 hour naps in the afternoon. Also at four months she is going through a growth change and getting up to nurse more for a few days is normal. She is growing. Also at this sge two naps, one in the morning and one in the afternnon is normal and they can range from 1 hour to 3 hours. All is normal. Also remember she could have been up because of teething. My daughter got her 1st tooth at 4 1/2 months.
It's probably due to getting shots. Did they not mention it when they gave them? Many times it makes kids tired... my theory is that all the stress (and sometimes crying) wears them out more, plus their little bodies are working overtime processing antibodies for the newly introduced vaccine. She'll probably be back to normal tomorrow.
