Our nanny has playdates almost every day with up to 3 groups of kids and other nannies. She has been invited to the birthdays of these kids during the week and the nanny purchased the gifts herself. Should I reimburse the nanny for the gifts? I was only told the morning of the party that she was going and never met these kids, but my child does see them everyday.
I think you should at least offer, but then you need to set up some guidelines for the future, too. Like a max amount to spend for the presents, etc. I mean, the idea is the present is from your child, right? And maybe you should have a playdate at your house one weekend (and invite parents) so you can meet the kids that your child is hanging out with. Good luck.
I would, absolutely. She sounds like a great nanny and is doing something very beneficial for your child. Or you can sort of have a stock pile of gifts for different ages of kids so when she needs one, she can grab one.

This happened to me a few years ago. I didn't know the birthday child at all - the babysitters were good friends and my son played with him intermittently. I offered to pay half since the gift was from our nanny and my son, and the way I got round this was to say "Let me give you something towards the gift since it's from both of you".
