my family will grow more as I just found out today. No not mine...

The mom has a name and has had since she was 12 for a girl but after talking about it I need to know how you would spell it.

The name sounds like Jess- uh- mean. She wanted Jessamine but that would close to Jazmine wouldnt it? They are going to have a fight over the boy name. She wants one he wants another. I told them to rock paper scissors if it is a boy. Atleast they agreed that that was not an option...

Anyways any help would be appreciated.

What can I do next?

All I could think of was "mezzanine" (like the low balcony in a theater).... so my suggestion is Jezzamine.

And as far as husband and wife not agreeing on a name, we resolved that issue by giving each spouse complete veto power. If they vetoed a name it was dropped forever, no disputes. They can't honestly expect one spouse to hate the name of their own offspring! Good luck!

I once had a student named Jessamine, and she pronounced it "Jess-a-min." I think you could get away with "Jess-a-mean," though. I wouldn't alter the spelling any to make it more phonetic. It's a beautiful name.

The proper spelling is Jessamine. It's pronounced Jess-uh-min.

It's a flower. The South Carolina state flower. It's also called yellow jasmine.

What about just the name "Jessa?"
There is a girl at my kids' school, with that name.
She is a really nice girl.
And there is no confusion about her name or the pronouncing of it.

They have to figure out the boy name without fighting.
Or they can use one name for the first name and the other for the middle name.

Just something to think about.....i had a daughter and i named her Denielle. I wanted something different than Danielle. Anyway, in the hospital after she was born, i was telling nurses and friends her name....i found myself telling each one "no, not danielle....dEnielle, with an e". I saved her the hassle for the rest of her life and changed her name to Danielle.

Congrats to your friend!!!

urgh.. sorry - i get "having a name" but this is like Neaveh...or some "new fangeled way - but really???? It's like Hashtag. Or that one couple that named their kid - Martini Sex On the Beach or something funky like that...

If she wants Jasmine - then make it Jasmine. But the funky spellings are going to have this child correcting and spelling her name for the rest of her life.

What about Yessine?

here's some odd names lists:

Jessamine and Jazmine (or Jasmine) are pretty close, but not the same. I would tend to pronounce the first JESS-ah-mihn (even though it has the e on the end), and the second JAHZ-mihn. Jess and Jazz. :^)

You might suggest that your friend and her husband *each* make a list of at least twelve "acceptable" boy names. When they compare lists, there will probably be a name or two that show up on both. Those are the names they can go with.

I know it doesn't really answer your question, but I kinda like Yasmin. It is a hispanic name that means Jasmine. You pronounce it YASmin.

If they name here Jessamean or Jessamene, kids will probably end up calling her 'just a meany'.

When naming kids, I like to keep in simple, yet meaningful, and try to keep the mean nicknames out of it. No need to hand the kids a nickname. Or set your kid up to be a bully 'yep, I'm Jessamean'. (just a mean).

For a girl,
I would go with either Jasmine, or Jessica
I also like the suggestion of Jessa
For a boy, I would go with Jessie or James

I would spell it the way you did (Jessamine). Yes, it is close to Jasmine but many names are close or similiar to other names.

I don't think rock paper scissors would be a good option either. They both should be ok with a name that they decide on because it will be their child's name for life. Glad they agree.

If they can't agree, they could compromise...for example my daughter's name was supposed to be Cheyenne Nicole because I had it picked out long before I was pregnant as the name I wanted and hubby didn't really have a name he liked. He started throwing out names, many w/ Nicole as the middle name but he was missing the point that I really wanted the Cheyenne and Nicole was where I was willing to compromise. Finally we agreed on Madison Cheyenne (but we would call her Cheyenne)....wished I hadn't caved but I acknowledged that he had to like the name too. If she had been a boy, he wanted a jr but I have a jr (with ex) and wanted Matthew James (plus I hated his middle name even though it was from his biological grandfather's middle name). We finally agreed on Matthew Charles (his step-grandfather's middle name whom we both loved but had passed). Ended up not needing that name but either way the initials were going to be MCM (not that it mattered but it was just a neat fact).

If it were my name, I'd ask people to call me Jessa or Jess anyway, so it wouldn't really matter.

For boys names, have each parent write down a selection of names they like on separate papers, then exchange. They each cross off the ones that are absolute NO's but they have to leave at least a few to work with. Maybe, if they're lucky, there will be a common name or two on each of their lists! If not, process of elimination until they find one they both like.

My ex wanted to name our baby Cyrus if it were a boy. I said NO WAY! We went back and forth for months until we came to an agreement on Ethan. We had a girl, lol.

My son's name was originally "Eliath" after his biological father which is hispanic and in his culture it's pronounced "El-e-ot" Or Eliot with an ancient the "H" is silent. I wanted his name to be Eliot originally but his father wanted his name and since they were similar I caved. We lasted about 11 months with this name and it was nightmarish! I finally had to petition the court to legally change his name because NO ONE got his name right even my family said it wrong. As far as the spelling of his name I still wanted it to be different so I went with 1-L and 1-T to be unique. Don't tell my son or his father but he is really named after "Elliot Stabler from law & order SVU :)

If she insists on having a name pronounced like that, she should probably spell it Jessameen. It doesn't look good, but people will pronounce it correctly more often than not if they see it like that. Jessamine looks like MINE, not MEAN at the end and it will always be wong. Always.

Personally, I'd go with Jasmine. Like the princess from Aladdin. Prettier than Jessameen both in pronunciation and spelling. And, people will see it and know what it is.

Jessamine is an existing spelling of an name, and you're correct to guess that it is a variant of Jasmine. It is pronounced JES-a-min.

Jessamean would be the best bet for people to pronounce it correctly when reading it, but people mispronounce my short one-syllable name too so you can't put a lot of stock in what others do.

Seriously, people have called me Joe. WTH?

Jessamine is a legitimate name apart from Jasmine. It sounds similar to Jasmine because it's a variant of Jasmine. It's also used to refer to a particular flower in the cestrum family.

Considering she chose the name when she was 12, she has good naming taste. Jessamine would only be a problem if she has a daughter already named Jasmine.

There's something about the sounds that make it seem to want to come out Je-sah-mean which just feels a bit awkward to my mouth but maybe that's just me.
Jessy would be nice.
And easy too.
Or even Jessica would work.
Maybe Jezzameen but then that is closer to Jazmine.
