my little boy's 2.5 yrs old and doing pretty good on potty training, well at daycare anyway, not at home!
anyway, i bought him big boy underwear yesterday - so proud, but they're TOO BIG! he's approx 25 lbs, he's a little guy. but i bought 2T and they just sag off his little bottom and lots of room in the leg holes.
any suggestions? just thought i'd ask....

thanks :)

also...one more thing. any idea why he pottys so well at school and just flat out refuses at home. i'll take him to the potty and set him on it and he'll just jump right down. tonight he looked at me, tells me no he doesn't need to go potty, then pees right on the carpet. hmph!

What can I do next?

I would just take him to the potty, not ask him if he needs to go, just tell him it's time. Gymboree 2T-3T undies fit DS at 25 months. Also Hanna Andersson has smaller size underwear but it is pricey.

They may fit better after you wash them. Wash them in hot water and dry them on high.

About the daycare potty, ask them what they do, what their routine is. I bet he sees kids going into the potty and wants to go after. My babysitter told me what an awesome eater she is and I was taken back lol. I was like she's not at home. My sitter was saying that kids tend to follow the lead of other kids, they feed off each other. He sees kids going and wants to do it too. If you do their routine with him maybe he won't need to see other kids go. My daughter is 2 1/2 and honestly she has a big potty seat and a little potty. I let her tell me and every now and then I'll ask her. She does better at the sitter's b/c of what I described above (seeing other kids going in the bathroom to potty). I have one week of this semester left and then a month break so we shall see how well it goes when I switch her to underwear.

Have you tried Children's Place? Their sizes in underwear and undershirts seems to be too small for the "average" child.

My little boy would tell me he didn't need to go then go to his toy room and pee all over the floor. I put him in underwear and when he peed in his pants I would leave him in his wet pants for five minutes, increasing the time with each incident. I would also refuse to hold him, my baby loves to cuddle, or let him on the furniture or even sit n my hardwood floors, telling him his wet clothes smelled nasty and mommy did t want to smell like that or have the furniture smell like that. After three days he was potty trained, poopy too, and we rarely have accidents now. We are entering into our second month! Good luck!

Wash and dry those undies a few times. Put them in with towels and sheets if you can't make a load,

My 4th was very easy to potty train because he watched the girls go so he wanted to also, like Singlema said.
I would just put him on the potty and say it is time, put a timer on every hour or 1/2 hour. Whatever you deem appropriate. Read books in there. For my daughter we had one of those singing books that sang a new song with each page and button you pushed. It was only for pottytime.

Ok at home it sounds like he is trying to take control and be the independent stubbern 2 year old we all know and love lol just lay off him at home and let him run naked everytime he doesnt make it have him help you to clean it, by that i mean have him get you the wipes or towels whatever it is you use and show him and have him help. Tell him next time try to make it to the potty. walk hinm to the potty and tell him that is where he goes pee and poo. I qwouldnt use rewards bc they get bored with it them it back fires. Tell him he is a big boy when he uses the big boy potty. If you are solely relying on the big toilet, take him to the store and let him pick out a potty just for him to use LET HIM TAKE CONTROL in that aspect. It will help tremendusly. My daughter is petite as well she is 23 lbs at almost 3. we bought her panties and i washed them a dozen times on hot hot and dryed on high heat.(cotton panties) and they fit her now and I mean literally 12 times! it was the only thing in the was besides a couple towels (bc i felt like i waqs wasting water) try it. they will shrink.

Try fruit of a loom maybe. It seems they run smaller than hanes, at least for girls.

Wash the undies in hot water, and dry on high several times and they will shrink.

School is typically more structured with schedules to keep, hence children are TOLD "Time to go potty!" whereas at home we usually ASK "Do you need/want to go potty?" and the answer is "no" because we give them a choice and they're asserting their independence. Set up a schedule for him to try, say every 30 minutes (or less if he keeps having accidents) don't ask, and have him sit at least 5 minutes. If he's telling you he doesn't have to go then goes on the carpet, don't get mad, but do have him help clean up his messes.

Gerber makes training pants that are made of thicker cloth, my daughter was a tiny little thing and I was training her early, I was able to find a size 18 mos which was great for her. If you do go that route I would order them online, they were very difficult to find!

wash them in hot water.

you could also try Disney or Fruit of the Loom. They tend to run a bit smaller.
