Mystic Tanning While Pregnant

I am in my 3rd trimester. I am wondering if it is safe to do mystic tanning. It is a spray on tan. Has anyone done this or does anyone know anything about using it while pregnant. We have a special evening coming up for my husbands birthday. I have this beautiful dress to wear and would love a tan to go with it. I have a doctors appointment Thursday and will consult with him as well, but I wanted to know from some moms also. Thank you for your time.

What can I do next?

My doctor told me no when I asked about that in my 3rd trimester. Basically, it "might" be ok, but the unknown wasn't worth any risk. Just one opinion............

J., congratulations! It's so exciting becoming a mommy all over again! I would like to suggest speaking to your doctor. As a nurse and skin care consulant, I agree with the previous note that anything that touches your skin absorbs into your body and bloodstream, depending on the amount of mineral oil it contains. I've done multiple tests of placing a clove of garlic between your toes and within seconds, you will taste it. Disturbing for me, which is why I watch everything that I place on my skin, esp perfume...no longer hits the skin, just the clothes! Hope this helps and the very best of luck! I'm sure your husband will agree you are beautiful no matter your skin tone!Take care!

J.,
Chemicals are chemicals. Being in a room concentrated on spraying you even if you hold your breath is not a good idea for your baby. I'm sure you'll look beautiful without the fake tan. After all, you've already got that gorgeous mommy glow!! Have a wonderful time celebrating!

I am glad you are thinking about this and asking questions. The decision will be up to you. I am sure there aren't any 'known risks', but as with anything you put on your skin, it will be absorbed.

My doctor recommended that I not put anything on my skin that I wouldn't eat (stick to oil) while pregnant, because it all absorbs in through the skin and gets to the baby in some form.

Congrats, but I'd avoid it!

My doc said not to do it. She said that you can use the lotion, the Jergen's or any brand like that. They are like bronzing lotions and really do give you a glow. Try it everyday for a week prior. It is a pretty, sparkly glow!

Dear J. P,
I did a spray pn tan when i was pregnant with my second daughter, my best friend since of 20 years was getting married. The only part was breathing in the mist, but it was fine and the lady switched a fan on and it was great! If you have never had a spray tan before i recomend extensive exfoliation! well good luck!

you will be fine. I used to work at a tanning salon and I am now a nurse. There are no contraindictions to spray tanning and pregnancy

Hi J.,

All products that go on your skin absorb into your blood stream. Danger levels vary. I refer to skindeep.com and www.cosmeticsdatabase.com for information on toxicity levels. They use a toxicity scale of 1-10. If it's anything over a level 3 I avoid it completely for just me.

Mystic tan products are at http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/wordsearch.php?query=Mys...

Judge for yourself!

Congratulations on your little one!

Sometimes the place where you go will have a sign that says they advise against use of their mist-on tan for pregnant women. Give the place a call and see if they have this policy. If you decide not to do it, perhaps get your makeup and your hair professionally done for that evening and you will feel like a million dollars. Enjoy your special evening out w/your special dress.

Before you go to the dr, find out the exact ingredients that is in the spray tan, write them down and take them to the dr with you. Your skin has poors which can seep into the skin and your baby will get exactly what you have in you. If you know the ingredients, then the dr will be more able to help you decide if it is harmful or not.

I was in the tanning bed about twice every week for almost 2 months while pregnant. My doc said it was fine that the baby would not be hurt and she wasn't. Once I had my daughter, I went and had the spray tanning done. The only thing I can think of that would be uncomfortable is the smell. Once you hold your breath when the sprayer comes out, the remaining smell is still in the air along with the remains and it's a bit hard to breathe. You should be fine but you should be fine.

Don't do it. Not because your pregnant but because they look aweful. Everyone knows you didn't just come back from the Bahamas so they'll know it's fake. Besides, it comes off in patches and looks horrible. Pale skin is in.

Congrats to you...I am due with a girl on May 24th! I have used mystic tanning with both pregnancies...its fine. We are going to Hawaii in February, and I refuse to show up pregnant and pale white so I will be doing it again right before we leave. One or two treatments while you are pregant will not hurt anything!!
