My Son's Face

My youngest son is almost 8 and his face keeps getting little rashes and something like pimples. Not real pimples, little breakouts. I've use antibiotic cream and lotion and plain old water. We are useing the same conditioners, shampoos and soap as always. He washes his face everyday. I don't know if he's scratching his face a lot or what. I don't know what to use. The doctor said not to use the antibiotic cream because he could be allergic to it. He does have allergies but it doesn't look like hives. What else can I do that doesn't cost a lot?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I use Mary Kay lotion on his face and that seems to help a lot. I also remind him after every meal and snack to wash his face. That seems to work the best. Thank you all for taking the time to read my request and send such good advice.

My son gets the same thing, I think. The doctor told me to use Eucerin cream/lotion on his skin right after a bath, and then when he has breakouts, she gave me some Elidel. She also suggested for his baths, using the Dove white, unscented bar soap. It's worked good for my son. He just had his first breakout in 9+ months, and it was cause I got lax on using the stuff. Hope this helps you!

Hi S.,
We just moved to Montana in the fall from Colorado - from one dry climate to a super dry one! My 4 year old had baby eczema until about 18 months and now my younger son, almost 3, is getting dry patches on his cheeks. These look red and bumpy and sometimes pimply. What has been a fabulous help is applying Aquaphor to the red area. I had to have it on my little one around the clock but for your guy probably just a good slather at bedtime will help or also put it on once he's home from school. It's got a greasy texture and will make his cheeks look shiny so he probably won't want to wear it to school. Check with your ped if you like, it certainly shouldn't make anything worse (doesn't sound like s/he has had any suggestions that have worked), and s/he might even have some free samples to give you.
Good luck,
T.

It does sound like excema. All 5 of my children get excema from allergies- both food and environmental. You could use aqauphor, eucerin cream, but works best for us in called vanicream. You get it behind the pharmacy counter, but is not prescription. Good luck.

You might want tot ake him to se the Dr or see a dermatologist. I had a similar condition and so does my daughter. It is known as Fifth's Disease or Slap CHeek Syndrome. It is a begnign but annoying parvo virus that affects the skin.

I would also agree that it is eczema. Maybe get a second opinion from a different doctor. My doctor gave us an ointment, also comes in a cream, called Triamcinolon. I think it is also called TLC. It can come in a very mild dose. It works well for skin irritations. Also, don't over wash the area.

It sounds like eczema. My daughter and I both have this skin condition. I can't tell you what to do...only how we treat ours. To prevent breakouts we use Eucerin daily on the potentially active areas (for us it's our limbs). Then if a breakout does occur I resort to Cortizone 10. I've used dermatologist prescribed ointments but they burn. In my opinion, nothing works better than Cortizone 10!
