My Son Stopped Eating Veggies

My 20 months old son used to LOVE his veggies (peas, broccoli, green beans, and carrots). Now, he will pick out the meat/chicken from his plate, eat it all, and leave the veggies untouched. His pediatrician told me it was going to happen around this age, but I don't know what I should do about it. I intend to ask the pediatrician what he suggests I do and if I should start giving him vitamins, but my guess is that he would say to just let it go. But I don't get how you all of the sudden stop liking veggies that you loved so much just two weeks ago. Any suggestions?

Kid's tastes change so much as the grow. My son is the same age as yours and won't eat a veggie to save his life, but can eat an 8 oz steak quicker than my hubby or I. Don't worry about the vitamins, as long as your son is getting a good variety of food in his diet he will be fine. Keep offering them though, he might decide to like them as quickly as he decided to not like them. Try Pediasure if you are worried he isn't getting his vitamins or Carnation instant breakfast. They are great since they have al the vitamins they need and it is only once a day. And they have different flavors. My nephew has been drinking those right before bed for 5 years now.

It has happened to me too...I think it's completely normal. With my first and second kids, I tried adding grated and pureed veggies to spaghetti sauce and casseroles that the kids couldn't necessarily identify. Believe it or not, pumpkin is sooo good in sauces (like spaghetti) and it is super-good for you. I knew we'd hit a turning point when my kids eventually started eating cucumbers and peppers at dinner with dip (now they like salad!). I stayed strong on fruit through it all, and have always offered them what we are eating (we eat a lot of veggies and salads) and incredibly, they eat all kinds of vegetables now! (My son is 3 and daughter is 6.) I think it is partly due to the fact they grew out of the phase, and partly due to the fact that my daughter has seen kids in preschool and school eat veggies (peer pressure). Keep offering a variety, try to disguise some in the foods he does eat, and it will pass! We are living proof!

Suggestions: V8 fruit juices, carrots/squash/pumpkin in spaghetti and lasagna, spinach in lasagna, breads and muffins baked with carrots, pumpkin and zucchini, shredded carrots, chopped broccoli and peas in chicken casseroles

Instead of juices high in sugar, you can puree cooked veggies and freeze in ice cube trays to freeze (much like baby food) and pop them out and stick into a ziploc. Then add to things they will eat.

Spaghetti sauce
Mac n cheese
mashed potatoes
soup
even baked goods (sweet potatoes, peas, carrots)

I also shred zucchini, chop fresh spinach finely and sprinkle into EVERYTHING

But ALWAYS continue to put a side of veggie on the plate and continue encouraging them to eat it. (but lightly, not going overboard or forcing... don't bribe with dessert)

Buy a book about the human body, how food works in it, etc.

Have them help cook, constantly praising what they've done.

Notice positives, how well they are eating what they ARE eating.

Lament over how wonderful EVERYTHING tastes.

My daughter did the same thing around the same age. She is now 3 and is still very picky. We started giving her Poly Vi Sol Enfamil vitamins from 1 year plus when we stopped her on formula. Our pediatrician did recommend we give her a vitamin but it was mainly b/c he said children over 1 are at risk of getting low iron b/c of their diet.
