So What Happened?

I wanted to know if anyone else experience this behavior with their child(ren). I took him to see his pediatrician and she said he has fluid in one of his ears. She prescribed him medicine and since he hasn't been shaking his head as much. So I guess its working. Thanks for the advice!

I understand that asking on an internet site feels like a good way to get an immediate answer from a variety of people who might have experienced something similar. In matters which involve your child's health and development, however, it's always better to talk to your child's medical person. They have more experience than any one of us and most importantly, the pediatrician or nurse knows YOU and your child, and can examine him. I'd suggest calling to ask at the office and making an appointment if they feel they want to see him, or maybe they'll want to wait until the 6th month appointment, which is in three weeks anyway. Good luck with it!

It could be nothing or it could be something. What I'm trying to say is that you have a very young baby and you are concerned, so you must contact his pediatrician for an appointment right away to show him/her the behavior and ask questions. There is no way we can give you any medical advice.

This is the kind of thing I would ask his doctor. Or if you don't want to go in, call the pediatrician's office and ask the nurse what she thinks.

Some shaking and involuntary movement is 'normal' with infants. They have reflexes and such. If it's something more serious, you need to know now. I would not delay, personally. Why worry, right? It's not doing you or your baby any good.

It likely is nothing, but better to know :)

** Added: there is an ask the pediatrician aspect to this site on the main page. They could likely guide you but I still think seeing his own doctor is way to go.

I agree with Anne L. entirely. This problem has been going on for several months, and you have (or I sincerely hope you have) a dedicated pediatrician or nurse practitioner who has seen your child since birth. You should make a phone call to discuss this - it costs you nothing to do that. If your pediatrician has not encouraged you to call with this sort of concern with an infant, and even with lesser concerns like a fever, then you need to be more assertive about this or find a more receptive pediatrician who makes you feel comfortable with the totally normal concerns and bewildering issues that affect new parents.

If your child does not do this all the time and therefore might not do it in the doctor's office, try to take a video with your phone (or get a friend who has that feature on their phone), and then show your phone (or email that friend's video) to the medical person so he or she can see exactly what it looks like.
