My son started losing his voice last night. Today it has gotten worse. He told me his tongue hurt also. He does not have a fever and I asked if it hurts when he swallows. He said it did. Last week my baby girl was diagnosed with strep but she had a high fever and was very irritable. Could he have strep and just show somw different symptoms or maybe laryngitis? Any thoughts from anyone?

So What Happened?

He does not have strep. They tested him Tuesday and the results were negative. His voice is a tiny bit better today but not back to normal yet. Thanks for the input!

He most likely has strep, too. Often strep presents differently. Sometimes it even shows up as stomach issues. I would take him to the minute clinic as soon as possible.

Yes, he could have strep, especially since your daughter had it recently. I would take him in for a throat culture. Symptoms can vary from person to person and also vary by age of the child. Some children actually experience nausea with strep and few if any other symptoms. I would err on the side of caution and have him tested. Good luck!

I would definitely have him checked for strep. Children can have many different symptoms and reactions to all kinds of sicknesses.

I know others have already said it, but it's happened with my kids, too! One has symptoms and the other has none and they both have it. Definitely have him checked out!!

Yes, strep can show almost no signs in some kids, while others get really sick. Just depends. I'd get him tested just to be safe.

About a month ago, my 2 year old was diagnosed with strep. The only symptom he had was that he felt warm and when I took his temp (in his ear) he cried and said "ow". He then pulled on both ears saying "ow". I seriously thought I was taking him in for a double ear infection - but his ears looked great. The doctor tested for strep saying his throat was red - and that often times a sore throat can be felt in the ears because they are so close.

I would definitely get him in and get him tested.

YES, I wanna bet he has strep too. Kids show all differnt symptoms with strep. My daughter kept bringing strep home from kindergarten last year and giving it to me, I felt horrible because I didn't know she had strep or was the source. My daughter at first had no symptoms, then after I kept getting strep I had a hunch to test my daughter and felt horrible when I learned she had strep. She told me she had a itchy throat once and did have a small bumpy rash on her tummy but I associated that with her eczema. My daughter never got real sick or ran a fever.

Strep shows itself in several different forms, I have found that out the hard way. My oldest son doesn't get a sore throat, or even a red throat. He gets tiny little red bumps around his mouth, that's how I know I need to take him in. I would bring your son in to get tested, it's not fun, but it will give you piece of mind. There are so many things going around right now.

Not everyone shows the same symptoms for strep. I would have him tested.
