You only need walking shoes for trips outside of the house. Barefoot is best, shoes are just to protect him from the elements outside.
Congrats.
Do you think for every child who begins to walk? Should they have walking shoes?

I concur with Julia. Let them be barefoot or socks this time of year to keep feet warm and clean. When you leave house put on shoes. I was recommended the roobies (sp) because they are thin and durable. My guy is finally standing/creeping around furniture so I am almost in the same boat. Good luck and Congrats on the walking.
Current thinking is barefoot is best and that no ankle support is needed (this is very different thinking from years ago so people with older kids may not realize it has changed. He only needs some sort of soft shoe outside to protect his feet from snow and ice.
My son has been walking for two months and I don't have shoes for him yet. I have been looking but all of my kids have/had wide feet when they were babies. It's hard to find a good pair in wides that don't cost a ton. I think I'm going to have to break down and go to Stride Rite.
barefoot is the best! If your child will be walking outside, then invest in a pair of toddler shoes that are lightweight, breathable and have a sturdy, but flexible sole.
nope, bare feet are best for letting them feel the ground with their whole foot, including toes. Their toes grip the ground and they can feel exactly when their heel hits the ground. Get some soft shoes like Bobux (you can find these cheap at TJ Maxx or the generic brand at Target - they work just as well!) The only reason to even wear these is to keep feet warm and protected when outside - otherwise just keep those cute little feet bare!
I leave mine barefoot or put on those gripper socks that have like little plasticy dots on the bottom and let him go! I did put him in some shoes the other day and was so impressed that he could walk in them. It usually takes a little time for them to master walking in shoes. Barefoot is best :D
They really only need shoes for walking outside. Inside barefoot is always best.
Barefoot is best, but outside they need something to protect their feet.
When my children began to walk I immediately bought them a good pair of stride rite shoes for beginner walkers to provide ankle support and stability. A lot of moms may disagree, but I believe it is up to the mother. Me I was taught by my mom to get them immediately into a good pair of shoes so they don't wobble to much and to strengthen their ankles. My children are 16 yrs old and 2 yrs old. I did the same for our toddler now as the teen; once she stood up she got a pair of stride rite shoes. Thank goodness stride rite shoes are cheaper than they were when our oldest started to walk. Then $50 now $25. Do what you feel is best and congrats on your little one walking.
no I just let mine go bare foot till they are outside and use tennis shoes or sandals what ever is appropriate. trust me in a month you will be saying boo not yea
