I second what the other E. said, I have two family members who applied to be tutors in Hillsborough County at different elementary schools. They said it is free , the parents just need to request it. Also you might search afterschooling or reading help online. There are sure to be some ideas. One thing is to read plenty of books that are easy for him to read. So if that means reading books that have only 3 letters in them, that will help build his confidence. Also reading books that are only slightly hard for him, but you read one line, he reads the next. And always try and stop before he gets overwhelmed. It doesn't sound like he is that far behind though, keep working with him, but try not to feel like it is a HUGE thing. That only puts pressure on him and you. I have a first grader who loves to read books and take the quizzes on bookadventure.org . They have quizzes on a lot of the Dr. Seuss books and similar. Also you said you have 3 boys, are any of them older than him? If so they could read together or read to him. That is always good for them! By the way what part of town are you in? ~E.
