H.H.
My kids' toenails aren't the problem. My husband's, however, could affectionately be referred to as atrocious.
He's broken a couple of nail clippers trying to tame them, so we're thinking of investing in a small belt-sander. :o)
Ever since he was born (and he's 2 now), my son has had the ugliest toenails I've ever seen! They grow kind of out then OVER the tip of his toe, almost at a 90 degree angle down. Gross. They are always broken-looking and never flat and nice. I clip them as often as needed, I don't know what the issue is here, they've been like this since he was born! They don't hurt or bother him, they're just ugly.
Does anyone else's kids have really ugly toenails? What causes this? Is there a 'fix' for it?
His fingernails are also pretty flat (like they don't curve left to right like his finger, like normal nails) so I'm constantly having to clip the sides more than the middle part... those are WEIRD, but not super GROSS like his toenails!
Any thoughts?
@Suz, you're right, I still love his little piggies!! I think they'll be my picture of the day for my project 365, ugly nails or not! :)

Haha! Baby K's toenails are wacked! They go the opposite way and impossible to cut! They are a mess! I hope she grows out of it!
Hi, Rachell:
I am thinking that you don't make a comment or act
like his toenails are unsightly. Don't want him to be
ashamed of the way his toe nails are shaped.
Just a thought.

My youngest has toe nails like that and it makes them really hard to clip sometimes. He's 9 1/2 now and trys to rip the off and that makes things worst.
I don't make a habit of telling my kids that their body parts are 'gross', 'ugly', or 'weird'.
My kids all have weird toe nails too...I hope that they grow out of it as well...All toe nail but like hard to see the nail beds...very weird and I am having to cut them on a weird angle to. LOL!
I take my son to get pedicures with me!!!
((I figure it's turnabout is fair play, since I first started being taken for pedicures with the Force Recon guys in the marine corps. Around military bases it's common for most of the chairs to be full of guys getting their feet pampered... but we're "weird" for doing it here Seattle))
He loves them, it's fun time for the two of us, and about half the time he has his painted black.
My oldest (5 year old) has monster nails. Wavy, curly, craziness. Think it has to do with calcium levels and genes. My husband still has thick Frito Corn Chip nails, and he does not have fungal infection. Just his toe nails. My other two kids have gorgeous nails nothing amiss with them. As long as the are not yellow, I wouldn't be too worried. Just keep them clipped after every bath. The shorter they are the less likely they will catch or break, or cut other toes around them.
Yeah, my son's are GROSS! I have nice toe nails, Daddy and Grandpa and Grandma (on daddy's side) all have weird or gross ones - I hope at some point my side kicks in!
If you haven't already, I would take him to a Podiatrist and get him checked out. When it comes to our hair, skin and nails, they reflect that which is going on inside of us. Could be your son has a vitamin or mineral deficiency of some sort. Iron for one can cause an abnormal shape in the nail. I would take him just to make sure he is 100%.. Also, just because it was that way at birth doesn't mean the docs didn't over-look an issue. Maybe it's nothing to be concerned about. Although, I think it best to get a professional opinion to rule out anything serious.
good luck
