My sister posted in my Facebook wall 7 hours ago, she said my mom BP reached 190. Doctors ordered CT SCAN,too. I can't contact my sister now, she is probably take all her 3 kids in hospital and sleep there. My skype can only reach landline. Idk their handphone number now :(
My mom is 60 years old, she doesn't smoke drink and eat quite healthy. However, she was in constant medication for 2 years because chronic muscle pain or arthritis. She was in steroid, but she just had detox and not in steroid anymore. The last time we talk she said she is almost normal and now can hold the grandkids.
What is likely to happen and why doctor order ct scan, for what? If you have any experience please share. I am nuts because I can't contact my family.
I don't want anything bad happen :( we are so far away :(((

What can I do next?

Call the hospital where they took your mom and get information from the nurses station there.

I'm sorry this happened. They will do a CT Scan to see if she had a heart attack or a stroke as well. High Blood pressure like that can be a stroke. I know one day my blood pressure was up to 220/150 - it was horrible and they kept me for hours before they let me go. I had a CT Scan as well to ensure I had not had a heart attack or stroke - and the CT Scan can show problems.

Don't panic. Take a deep breath. Call the hospital they took her to to get the information.

Good luck!

The CT scan is probably being used to get a very accurate look at her heart and how it's working. It's a much clearer image than an echocardiogram. If for any reason she has a bad reaction to the contrast solution, then you'll probably be told she's going in for an MRI or echo.

It's standard care in GOOD places.

I suspect they're looking for narrowed vessels, blocks, plaques, leaks, and damaged muscle. The may also be considering a pacemaker or surgery to repair a known defect (like narrowing, blocks, plaques, etc), and want really stellar images before considering surgery.

This is a good thing.

It's hard being overseas when your family is in crisis. Hang in there mama.

With her pressure so high, she's probably at risk for a stroke. That doesn't mean she HAD a stroke, but the doctors probably ordered a CT scan to rule that out.

Do you know the name of the hospital where she is? If so, they can probably give you more information. Otherwise, I guess just keep trying to reach your sister via FB, email, etc....

Best wishes,

Mira

How frightening! I'm sorry.
Here is some information on the possible link between arthritis meds & HBP:
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/arthritis-pain-medicatio...

I'm sure they admitted her because of the risk of stroke with very elevated BP.
Your mom is in the safest, best place should she ned urgent, immediate attention.
Hang in there and hopefully your sister will contact you very soon to keep you up to date.
Write a list of questions you may want to ask her now, so you don't forget when you get her call.
I'll pray for your mom. God bless!

The first thing I thought was.... I am sure, or hope.... they are also looking into her medications... and it if affected her blood pressure etc.
Some Arthritis medications, can increase blood pressure. Even over the counter types.
I say this because, my late Dad was on a lot of medications... and he routinely had to see his Doc, to monitor these things/blood pressure/have blood tests etc., due to certain medications. And I know this because I did care giving for him and talked to his Doctors all the time.
