Hi! Have you tried to mash fresh fruits & veggies to the right consistency for you baby? How about rice? Mashed potatoes? Crackers? How about juices like apple juice? Applesauce? Sausages, hot dogs, & noodles are easy, but I don't think they offer much in terms of nutrition.
I would try to mash more nutritious foods. Hopefully, he will like them.

do you feed him jarred or homemade food? My roommate's baby refused to eat store-bought, but she tried putting veggies in a food processor and her daughter ate it right up! Have you ever tasted store baby food? blegh... I don't blame him for not liking it! lol. plus, making your own is a LOT cheaper... and you can find all sorts of recipes online.

give him what you eat, give him fruits and veggies to eat, also make your own baby food i usually give my kids what we eat to make more like baby food i just put it in the blender...sausage,hot dogs, noddles don't have any nutritional value

example give him yogurt with banana and oatmeal in the morning
try grilled chesse sandwich,peas,potatoe,squash,sweet potatoe,sweet corn soup,beans soup,rice

My daughter wouldn't eat baby food by 9 months neither.
Give him what you eat (well cooked, in pieces small enough that he wouldn't choke, of course!), including fruits and veggies!

PS: if you go with the idea of homemade pureed food, a very good trick is to make a lot and freeze it into ice cube containers. When needed, you just need to thaw a couple of cubes!

Hi Mama-
Technically, your baby doesn't need solids yet. Honest. Breast milk or formula if you are not breast feeding, is all the kid needs. The other thing is , if you want him to start eating solids, then put some soft veggies and fruit in small bites in front of him and let him choose. If sausage or hot dogs are not an option, then he won't eat them because they are not there. Really, though, you can just keep him on the bottle for a little longer until he seems more interested in what you are eating. When he is one, try some egg whites, mild salsa, steamed veggies, fresh (room temperature) fruit like bananas, watermelon, cantaloupe, honey dew, mango's, kiwi, blueberries, grapes, etc. Very small portions. He'll eat what you give him as long as he is hungry. If you don't want him eating certain foods, then don't give them to him. I have seen people learn that the hard way, and it's so sad to see the baby crying for foods the parents know they shouldn't eat much of but are giving them anyway. Hey, if broccoli tasted like pizza, we'd eat it at every meal. But it doesn't. So we have to let our bodies tell us, not only is this food good, but your tastebuds will learn the flavor of healthy food and you will like it. Doesn't have to be broccoli- I still don't really LOVE broccoli, but you get my point.
Give your baby healthy foods, like black beans, rice, veggies, and the stuff that you are eating in tiny pieces (does he have teeth?) and he will be just fine.
Good luck mama

P.S. All parents should taste what they are feeding their child. Some of that baby food is great and some of it is downright disgusting.

I rarely gave my son baby food when he was 9months. Everyone is different with their kids as far as what they want to feed them, but I come from a latin backround and I gave my son what I ate. You always hear people say "that's not good for your baby" my son is now 4yrs old and will eat what i cook for dinner every night. He doesn't have a special menu or bad eating habits.... :)

I'm wondering when you introduced him to the hot dogs and sausages, and why. It may be that once he got the taste of those, nothing else satisfies him. Hot dogs and sausages have a flavor that is attractive to most people, and vegetables just don't give the same satisfaction in flavor sometimes. I would eliminate both of those from the available foods for a while... don't even have them in the house for the rest of the family. Once they are 'out of sight - out of mind' you may have a better chance to get your son to accept better foods. And yes, definitely give him pureed veggies that you do yourself rather than the stuff from the baby food jars. Or, since he's been eating hot dogs and sausages, he's likely ready to eat some non pureed cooked veggies or even some fresh raw veggie sticks.

I don't think there's anything wrong with giving him sausage, hot dogs, and noodles as long as you give him fruits and veggies too. As others said, it doesn't have to be baby food. It could be that he doesn't like the texture of the baby food. My daughter wouldn't eat mashed up bananas or avocados, but loves eating bite-sized pieces of them.

One other thing that came to mind since your son likes noodles was a recipe I tried a while back which substituted puree'ed cauliflower for milk in mac n cheese. A nice way to sneak some veggies into a noodle dish, and my daughter loved it!

Give him what you eat, and try to stop feeding just hot dogs, sausage and noodles...he needs a more balanced diet than that. Throw in some fruits and veggies too! :)
