My Head/neck's Clicking...

I slept funny on my neck (I don't think I was on the pillow, LOL) and it doesn't hurt, but whenever I turn my head to the left or right, it clicks. Again, it doesn't hurt, but it's a little concerning. I'm afraid I'm going to whip it too fast one way and paralyze myself or something! Okay, not really, that's pretty extreme, but still...

I tried stretching it slowly (usually I hang by my arms on the pull up bar and slowly bend my head forward, it works for my back), but it's not helping my neck.

I can't run off to the doctor or chiropractor. Has this happened to anyone before? I'm sure it will correct itself, things like this usually do, but I'd like to make it stop if I can. Know any tried and true stretches or at home, do it yourself remedies?

What can I do next?

I would try a hot and moist heating pad. While it doesn't hurt right now, you could end up stiffening your neck by lack of movement. So the moist heating pad will loosen your neck muscles to allow for movement.

I would ask Rob, when he gets home, to GENTLY pull my head/neck while his feet are on my shoulders (yes, do this lying down!!) :) and see if that resets the vertebrae that sounds like it's "off"..

My neck's always clicked early in the day.
A warm up in dance class always had us doing neck rolls (slowly at first, then gathers speed) and that works it out every time for me.
On the days I wake up with a muscle spasm in the neck, Aspercream and a heating pad eases it after awhile.
If a heating pad is not convenient, one of those air activated heat packs will work.
You could try a liniment if you don't mind the smell.

Yeah my neck does it all the time. I believe it is caused by aging. :p

I have found sitting on a chair and arching my neck backwards helps a lot. According to my chiropractor that gives your neck the proper arch. Kinda creepy how much it clicks and pops when I do it.

Mine does that when I do 10 hour marathons on the pc. I envy those that can pop their own neck. I wont let the chiroprator pop mine, too scary at my age I think. It will probably disappear as quickly as it came. Neck rolls and stretch cant hurt tho, that's what I do to limber it back up for the next marathon ;)

My whole body clicks all the time, lol. Getting older stinks. It is probably your neck is out a bit. Keep stretching, try a few minutes with a cold pack and a few minutes of heat (no more than 15 minutes of either). Try the chair stretching and/or put a rolled towel on the floor under your neck and lay on it for a few minutes. Just be careful you don’t want to pull a muscle and make it worse. It will most likely go back in place when you are sleeping tonight.

I was going to say heat and when I get weirdness in my neck I take a shower and just let the warm/hot water run on it...while gently rolling my neck in a circular motion.

Like Cheryl said...heat works best.

Neck rolls will help--do them slowly though!
