My girlfriend called me and asked me a question that I could not answer. I feel wierd about asking this but I want to know she keeps on getting yeast infections after she has sex with her husband. She said that she gets them about every couple of months or so. Is that common? Any advice on what I can tell her.

What can I do next?

It isn't common. Is she doucing after each time? If so, there can be a couple of causes first, Doucing actually cleans not only the bad bacteria, but good which causes your yeast infections, Is she allowing the yeast infection to heal? If she has an yeast infection doesn't clear it up, her and her husband can pass the infection to one another, which will cause her to get it right back. Hope this helps

Without getting into nitty gritty details, I would just tell you to tell her to make sure she goes pee every time after sex. And you have to be really consistent about it and do it as close to right after as you can.

I don't know for sure if this helps, but I used to regularly get UTI's from this cause, and my doctor told me that I needed to switch to an antibacterial soap to wash with and after sex, always always use the bathroom and make sure that your very clean afterwards.

It has helped me immensly and have hardly had one since. I think this same type of care might help your friend.

Men can carry bacteria that cause yeast infections so he may need to be treated, as well! Otherwise, he'll just keep passing it back to her.

it is possible for men to have yeast infections and not know (because they don't experience symptoms like women) so it is possible if she gets a yeast infection and treats it but HE does not then he just keeps on reinfecting her. some women are just more prone to yeast infections than others. Tell her that diet plays a large roll in them as well. Yogert is a good food to help prevent them. I hope this helps.

Tell your girlfriend it could be any one of several things. Some of us just have vaginal environments more conducive to yeast infections, but there are other reasons someone might get them frequently.

I've had this problem and the best way I've discovered to beat it, is to start by getting a prescription of diflucan, a one-pill cure. If she can't for some reason get to a doctor fast enough, a seven-day course of monistat will probably work. My doctor told me that the one and three day courses really do not work too often.

After that, start taking pro-biotic pills, which are live bacillus culture pills that discourage yeast growth in your body, and drink a lot of cranberry juice, which has a similar effect. She should make sure and get the sugar-free kind because sugar has the opposite effect. If she does this religiously, she should start to see a reduction of yeast infections.

Some of us are more prone to yeast around PMS time, and the above cure should help with that too. However, frequent yeast can be a sign of other things, including (don't freak) HIV. It's very rare for a male partner to be passing it along, but not totally out of the question. So if the simple solution I've suggested doesn't reduce the frequency of a yeast infections, your friend really needs to see a doctor who is willing to investigate a little.

It's all yucky, isn't it? Good luck to you.
