I am an xray tech and you can not miss a penny or other coin in the bowels of a 2 year old on an xray. If they say it isn't in there, then it isn't. Either she didn't swallow it or you missed it in the diaper.
On Sunday night my 2 year old swallowed a penny. I am 100% certain of this as I watched her do it and couldnt get to her fast enough. I called the nurse line and she said since my daughter was not coughing, choking and appeared to be fine it should pass in a few days in her stool. (that coincides with similar incidents I have read) . So I have been going through her diaper determined to make sure it has passed. After her one a day poops (Monday, Tuesday) I failed to find the penny and Wednesday she did not go. Thursday I called the dr and they suggested coming in for an Xray. So I took her in, They did not see it! I am in complete disbelief since I know she swallowed it and I am 99% certain it was not in her diaper. They said I must have missed it in those 2 diapers I looked through but I cant believe that. I am 'trying' not to doubt the doctor - is the absolute only explanation that I missed this in her diaper? I feel like I did everything short of putting her stool through a strainer! But they said the penny is not in her. Now Im awaiting another poopy diaper since I am also thinking it is weird she missed a day - unlike her.
thank you leeann c. that is mostly what i wanted to hear - that there is no way it would have been missed. since you are an xray tech, i realize you would know that. i was mostly looking for an answer from someone in the profession or someone who this has happened to. i do trust the dr and the xray, i was just totally dumbfounded it wasnt there since, like i said, i 'thought' i was thorough in looking in her diaper. i'll spare you the details of my searches but i just cant believe i missed it. i did ask the dr if there was any way it was in her stool, about to come out, like if she were to go in the next hour. the medical assistant said that was possible. she did poop tonight but i saw nothing. but apparently im not a good 'poop sorter' ha! i will still watch for signs that she isnt well like the texas mom reported (how awful!) but i do feel better about it than i did earlier - once i got over the disbelief. this has been helpful, thank you to all who had input. now onto the potty training.....

Metal objects are REALLY visible on an x-ray...not saying that they couldn't have missed it, but odds are against it. You did more that I would have. Knowing that these usually pass, I would watch the kid more than the poop...and just worry if it seemed as though she was getting sick.
I'd give her things to help her poop...no telling what effect it has on her bowels. Check her stomach for hardness, monitor her temperature, and take her back in if she suddenly stops eating or drinking.
Good luck...I consider myself lucky that my three year hasn't swallowed anything besides play-doh (at least that I've seen...lol.)
I think she did not swallow it. Maybe you saw that she opened her mouth and tried to put the coin into it but the coin fell down into her cloths.
My daughter when she was 2 swallowed a piece of newspaper and I found it in her stool and even could read some words there.
Try to find that coin in you house and in her cloths
hi...there please just watch for signs my son was 2 when he swallowed a penny and they did a x-ray and missed it because it was turned and almost in his air way thankgod for texas childern they saved his life:)) he started running really high fever wouldnt eat i would maybe get another check up to be on the safe side:) good luck
Relax! Kids swallow stuff they aren't supposed to all the time!
Oh my goodness, how awful!! I agree with the other poster. Perhaps she didn't swallow it after all. I'd keep checking her diaper and if you don't find it maybe take her back to the doctor for a check up. I think they'd be able to see symptoms if she still has it in her. (?) I don't know but maybe a check up will give you peace of mind. Good luck!!
aww, what a crappy couple days youve been having(pun intended), i can t imagine where it might be. Perhaps she did not actually swallow it, maybe while you were checking her mouth she had it in her hand and dropped it. Maybe its in her bowels and the doctors just missed it. keep looking through those diapers!
My daughter popped something in her mouth about the same age. She got into my jewelry box so when i noticed she put something into her mouth i immeditatly grabbed her and saw her physically swallow it. I freaked out. Brought her into the ER for x-rays. Now for my daughter, they did see it in the x-ray. It took over a week for her to pass it. My daughter is regular so this seemed like an eternity. Give it a little more time.....good luck.
As a child I was always eating money...Not sure why, but I even swallowed 50 cent pieces, too (which are huge). As long as you notice no problems (i.e. difficulty breathing, eating, bowel issues) do not worry about it! It will eventually pass either whole or years from now as tiny pieces...No big deal.
