My 17 month old daughter was recently prescibed Omnicef (antibiotic) for a second ear infection, and Orapred (steriod) for a bad cough. I've noticed that just since beginning the medication, she will going into short spans of just staring into space. My husband or I can wave our hands in front of her face and she won't even blink. She comes out of it on her own within minutes, but I have no idea what's going on. Has anyone ever experienced this, with or without medication involved?

So What Happened?

Unfortunately, my daughter's regular doctor is out on maternity leave. I called her office yesterday trying to get some help with this, but really didn't get any answers. Thank you all for your prompt responses. My daughter is schedule to return to the doctor next week for a follow-up visit to her ear infection. I'm going to make sure to ask her sub doctor about the seizures.

I have never had any experience with this, but I sure hope you have stopped the meds, and read up on their side effects.

Good luck on finding out what is going on!

Hello S., I used to work with a guy that would do that, but his was do to an epileptic seizure. Your daught might be having a seizure, you need to contact her pedi right away and express your concerns.

I would take her back to your pediatrician and describe the episodes in detail. This sounds exactly like absence seizures. http://www.epilepsy.com/epilepsy/seizure_absence
