My Daughter Screams When I Put Her in the Bathtub.

My daughter always begged to take a bath. Now, since Christmas, she screams anytime we even mention a bath. We bought her some bath fizzies for Christmas and when we used them they broke out her skin. So we threw them away. Now we have to physically pick her up and force her into the tub. I know it is normal for kids to like baths but, I don't know how to help her get over her fear.

What can I do next?

Have you ever tried bathtub body paint? I get it from Avon and my 2 and a half year old knows that the only way she can paint with it is if she gets in the tub. I always make sure I have some. They come in different colors and they are dirt cheap! They are totally skin safe. Both my kids have skin allergies and this stuff has never broken them out. It's the only stuff I have found that doesn't irritate their skin.

Hi A. - so sorry to hear that she is having a problem with the tub - and i hate that the fizzies broke her out. My little girl has a labial adhesion, so i can't use bubble baths and stuff like that on a regular basis either - so, one of the fun things we use is bath foam - and man, she loves it! you buy it at wal-mart or target and it's like mousse basically. We had zero problems with this - I also might think that bath tub soap crayons might distract her. However, the crayons should be put out of their reach after use. I put them in the cute little caddy they came in and then had a bathroom full of drawings afterward!!

My daughter has eczema and is so sad that we can't use cool fizzies or bubble bath, etc. What I did find that was ok for her skin is the bathtub crayons. They wash off and my daughter (4) and son (16 months) both have a blast. They wash off easily and don't stain the washcloth. Maybe this enticement will encourage her to get back into the bath.

Good luck.

PS- I have been known to bribe with whatever works for that kid just to get them out of a funk. IE- a video after bath (we NEVER do that), a small piece of candy, extra long snuggle time, an extra book, etc. Whatever it takes- we can phase that out.... Just my 2 cents worth.

Have you tried to give her a new toy to take into the bathroom? or perhaps you can try getting in the tube with her a few times to see if it calms her? The key is trying to find out what is causes this issue before you can find a solution. I hope this helps some.

Hi A., try taking a shower with her. That way she does not sit in the water because it obviously hurt from the soap. My 3 year old boy loves the shower. It is like the pool or sprinkler outside for them.

I am so sorry your daughter is afraid of the tub. And that the soap you have broke out her skin. I get all my cleaning and personal care products from a Wellness company that I also work for that uses all natural ingredients and does not cause skin problems. visit my website for more information www.kristies.fourpointconsultants.com or www.rmbarry.com to read facts.

Maybe trying to make it fun, instead of that terrible reminder. Have her put on her bathing suit......make it fun. Toys and such. Might help. Keep us informed.

A.,
Have you tried showers?
My son went through a phase where he was terrified of baths when he was the same age as your daughter. I switched to having him take a shower and he really enjoyed that. Eventually he grew out of the hatred of baths and now enjoys baths and showers.
