I will start at the beginning.. I took my daughter in for her 6 month well baby check up. Everything was going fine until the doctor look down at her crotch. He told me that her bottom lips were not separating and gave some cream to help it. I went back in to for a 2 week check up and he said that it was better but not where it should be. So he is giving us another 2 weeks to see if there is any improvement. If there isn't that she was going to need surgery. I was wondering if anyone else had or is going through this. If you have did they go to surgery. and any advice you cna give me i would really appreciate it.

What can I do next?

I don't really know what causes it or even what it is but I wanted to write to you as someone who had the same problem when I was a baby. They had to use a hormone cream on me for I think my Mom said like 6 months and then everything turned out okay, she said that the "lips" opened up slowly. I don't know what the surgery would entail but as scary as it is, it might be better then long term hormone treatment at such a young age.

One thing I would ask for is a second opinion on the surgery. My husband is in the Army and we have found out that sometimes the military healthcare system is a little operation happy. They like to get experience on operations that aren't routine since they don't come up as regularly for them as they might in the civilian world. If that makes any sense.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

I have two girls and they both have had this. I guess it is very common but it seems strange that doctors don't warn parents or tell them what to look for. With my second daughter, it happened so fast that before I knew it they were almost completely closed. Both of them were prescribed "premarin" cream, and boy has it come in handy, as they have has this off and on. I would try my hardest with using the cream first but if they do close it could be very dangerous and I would consider surgery!

It is very coming my little girl had the same thing. The cream does help. We didn't have surgery and we used it for several times though out the year. Happy to say she is doing good. no problem going on 3yr. Our dr. said she may just out grow it. it would open then wks later is was sealing up again.
