My Daughter Is Having a Hard Time Sitting Up.

Hello,
My Daughter Madelyn just turned 8 months yesterday. At all of her check ups her Dr. would say how fast she was advancing and when I would compare her skills to the baby skills chart they were above average, she was in the "what a few kids can do" section which is great she was a head of herself! My issue now is, she doesn't really sit up well. Sometimes she will for a few, but if she gets distracted down she goes, also sometimes when i sit her on the ground she wont let her back get straight she leans backwards and falls immediatly. Other than that she is rolling everywere, trying to crawl, babbling "mama" Should I be worried about her not sitting super well yet??? She gets plenty of tummy time and I have even started butt time, when I have her sit with me and toys on the floor. I think maybe reading the babycenter.com weekly update's has me paranoid! They say that some kids are crusing on furnature or pulling themselves up at this point. Do you think i should be worried?

Thanks so much!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you so much for your advice!!
I just wanted to let everyone know that Madelyn is now sitting up on her own, literally a few days after I wrote the question. lol. Now were just working on crawling or standing. I think I just read about other babies walking at like 8-9 months and i get freaked out, im starting to realize that they all go at there own pace!
Again thank you, the moms out there have been so helpful in the past, Im really glad were all here for one another!!

Your schedule sounds horrendous! How do you find time to sit on the floor and play anyway? I wouldn't worry about this. I'd give her another month and see what happens. Usually there are several clues if there's a problem, and your doctor hasn't been concerned up to this point. Babies sometimes lag behind in one area while they work on others. Please take care of yourself with so much on your plate!

I worked in child care with infants and I learned then that a child technically is not 'sitting' on their own unless they have put themselves in that sitting position from tummy or back.

If you sit your child on their butt - by medical standards they are not 'sitting' on their own.
That is the first thing you should know.

I would not worry about it. Just keep her on her belly and let her work up her back, neck and tummy muscles naturaly. It will come. Kids really do do things at different paces. My son walked at 11 months my daughter walked at 14 months!

It is tough but try not to do too much comparing. And love her to bits - which I am sure you already do!

I know this is kind of late but I just read your post. My second one didnt really sit up until he was 9 months where he wouldnt fall back bc he didnt want to sit up anymore..at about 9.4 months he was crawling like crazy, clapping his hands playing peek-a-boo and standing up while holding on to furniture...My oldest son was way ahead of the game.. I guess they just do it when they are ready...in time give her a little bit...by 12 months if she isnt sitting up alone without falling then I would worry...take care

My son didn't really sit up well consistently until he was 8mos. I recently asked the PT at my work about the fact that he wasn't walking yet at 16 mos., and she said as long as he is hitting his developmental milestones, which he was and it sounds like your daughter is too, than there isn't anything to worry about. My son started walking at 17 mos. and is doing just fine. If she can sit up for a little while, she will probably be sitting up consistently soon, that's how my son was. She'll do it when she's ready! My son rolled everywhere too and was more into that than sitting up, since he got somewhere that way!
