She just turned 8 and was recently diagnoised with mesial temporal scleorsis. She has only had 2 generalized seizures within the past 2 years but now I think she is having partial seizures but the common things to look for are not present. For example she acted fine most of morning and early afternoon. All the sudden she didn't feel good and said she felt dizzy and needed to lay down. she slept from 2 to 6. Got up ate dinner and went back to sleep from 6:15 to 8:30. She's acting funny now that she is awake again. She is falling over trying to walk in the room. She's mixing up some words and talking very slow. Did she have a focal seizure? She also is complaing about the vision in her right eye. She is on Tegretol three times a day. Did she have a seizure that i'm not aware of? I'm new to this and don't have alot of answers around my area. Please anyone with experence share something.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the prayers. We are going to go get a 24 hour video study on her at the hospital. As far as support groups go...because this is uncommon to have in children unless it deals with some sort of brain trama or injury, I can only find other parents whos child has it but they also have another diagnoisis such as down sydrome. I keep searching everyday hoping i run into one though. Thanks

Call your on-call ped. This isn't something we should be guessing at. best of luck - how scary for all of you.

I've never been in your position and im so sorry you are going through this. Honestly if it were my child we would be at the ER. That sounds scary. At least give her doc a call? Im praying for you.

Is there any chance she's having a complicated migraine? Sometimes the migraine part is not so bad (when I was younger the migraine wasn't horrible). I'd basically start to feel funny (dizzy) then need to lay down, I'd get auras in my vision (bright jagged lines and holes missing from my peripheral vision) then weakness on one side (trouble walking, falling over) then I wouldn't be able to talk either getting words mixed up (like asking my mom "are you going to be okay?" when i was talking about me or simply talking jibberish or not being able to get words out at all..) then I'd get a migraine. Or I should say I still do.. it took them like 5 years to figure out it was complicated migraines. You can't treat it with triptans (normal migraine meds) and basically the only way (now) to stop it is to interrupt it with pain meds. They had me on topamax and it worked pretty good but I'm pregnant now.. I will say that when i was 12 they thought I was having focal seizures.. they can test for that so ask a doc. Ask her if she's having a headache.. she may even be sleeping through it. Good luck and I hope this helps.. it just sounds A LOT like what I went through for so long not knowing what was going on!

Hi, K.:
Talk to the nurse and ask her these questions.
Is there a support group for this condition?
Good luck.
