Sorry but she needs to see a dentist so he can grind it off. It not she will have problems later. Shouldn't cost to much. I know the county has dentists for low income families that don't charge as much. I learned that when working at Rainbow.
My little 31 month old daughter fell today and has taken a small chip out top of one her front teeth. Apart from it being sharp, I am concerned about susceptibility to cavity and/or nerve exposure and damage. Could you please advise what I should do?
Also, I don't have dental insurance right now, how much it would be if I go to see her dentist?
She is not in pain , and has been fine all day!

May sound silly, but why not just call the dentist and ask? They may work with you on a sliding scale if you are lower income or if you explain what happened, they may just tell you to watch it.
- I would definitly take her in to get it checked. They will want to look at it and possibly take an x-ray. She is very small, they may do nothing or even smooth it. I would say the best thing to do would be call them and ask what their advice would be. Good luck!
Lina, I just got a dental plan. It is not very expensive. I joined for a year and the whole family is less than $200. You get xrays, cleanings, etc., free twice a year with the plan and discounts on everything else. If you would like me to send you a link, email me at ____@____.com.

Here is the link for Charlotte County Health Department. They have a Dental Clinic.
Maybe you should look into Healthy Kids for your daughter. They will work with you.
Hope everything works out for you and your daughter.
Peace and Blessings,

My first instinct would be to call her ped. Speak to a nurse and ask their opinion. If you call a dentist, they may ask you to come in regardless. But maybe a ped would be able to recommend to go, not go. Just a thought
Good luck
Take her to the dentist!
My son fellon his face around the same age. I didn't think anything of it until his tooth started to turn brown, I did take him to a pediatric dentist in ft myers who told me no serious damage it was just bruised and should get darker and then lighten up again, which it did. The visit cost less than $150 but it was worth it for I had peace of mind knowing he was ok. I would take her to a pediatric dentist they are supposed to start to go at age 2 anyways which I didn't know I thought it was 3. Hope this helped
My son fell and chipped his front tooth when he was about 22 months old. I don't have dental insurance for him and I took him to Smile Builders on Sheldon Rd. They took x-rays and the dentist examined him for about $70. She said the damage was cosmetic and the sharp edges would wear away as he ate, but I felt better getting him checked out. Hope this helps!
Weeeeeeell....I think you are going to have to suck it up and take her to the dentist...Not much other choice....
Lina,
I would recommend consultation with a pediatric dentist. You can always call and find out how much an office visit is.
Good news is it is a baby tooth & she will eventually lose it any how. But the trauma can radiate & cause damage to the adult tooth. Not sure how likely this is at this age.
It also depends if the nerve/pulp is damages.
When I was 7, I chipped my upper eye tooth (adult tooth). Almost cut it in 1/2. It was capped/bonded at age 13 which was classifilas as temporary. I had it for 25 years. I finally had it changed 2 years ago due to wear & tear. The first one was $45 (1980), the new one was around $300. Like anything else prices vary from practice to practice.
I consultation won't hurt. The worst thing that can happen is you don't get it checked out & there is permant damage. Or you get it checked out & can't afford the treatment. At least with the consultation you know what to look out for, Pain, tooth discoloration (which can take weeks to develop) etc.
Absolutely take her to a pediatric dentist and get it x-rayed! My 2 1/2 year old chipped his top tooth about six months ago. We were lucky that it did not hit the nerve, so we chose to leave it alone (no capping, filing, etc...). If it is not bothering her, I would not recommend filing it down. It will smooth on it's own naturally by eating, drinking, her own tongue, etc... Be thankful that it is just her baby tooth and nothing permanent! We have affectionately nicknamed our son, "Chip" and his little chipped tooth fits right with his personality! Definitely get it checked out though, for peace of mind! Good Luck! :)
Dr. Oliver Favalli in Fort myers is wonderful. Just because they are pediatric dentist does not mean that they have any compassion for children. Look into what kind of reputation they have.
It seems that you've gotten quite a bit of helpful responses. I would definitely check with her ped and perhaps a clinic dentist if you have to. She is a baby and this is important for her just to be on the safe side and for your peace of mind. The tooth could cut her mouth or tongue. You and your baby are in my prayers. Nothing is too small to pray about. God is concerned about everything in our lives.
God's Blessings,
D.
I recommend having it bonded. unsure of the cost though without insurance. Might want to call and check around before taking her. You don't want decay to start since it can impact her permanent teeth if it reaches into the gums. My little one did the same thing except at 10 months old - both front teeth chipped on coffee table while walking.
Hey there! I recommend giving the dentist a call an checking on the price. My son Chipped a front tooth when he was three and I didn't do anything until his appointment about 4 months later. It ended up that the chipped tooth was only chipped with no concern, but the other front tooth must have taken the hit too and it damaged a nerve turning the tooth gray. They were able to fix it with not to much work.
Good Luck
My son did the same thing and I took him to a pediatric dentist. He was fine, but she said they could cap it if we wanted her to. If there was a nerve exposed, you would know it every time she drinks something! They did take one x-ray to be sure. I would take her to get the tooth filed down a little if nothing else. If it stays sharp, she will keep cutting herself every time she bumps into something.
If it's sharp then the dentist will be able to just smooth it a little. This might cost you probably $50 or more. It's SO expensive now. Call before and ask so you know.
I wouldn't worry about cavity etc because 1-it is a baby tooth and 2-since you are aware of it just make sure and brush that area really good. It doesn't sound deep since she's not in pain.
If you do take her into the dentist, take advantage of the appointment and ask questions, like the effect of juice, milk on her teeth and how often you should brush your young daughter's teeth to prevent decay etc.
Hi Lina;
I understand, my oldest son was horsing around with his grandfather a few years back, he was about three, and chipped his tooth, I freaked out at first, but I have this wonderful husband who knows when it's an emergency, and when it's not, and it wasn't. It turned out he was completely fine, the tooth smoothed out naturally, and eventually fell out and he grew his adult tooth. But not everyone is like us, we try to steer clear unless it's a real emergency, has saved us a lot of money that we just don't have to spend anymore. So use your intuition, and if you truly feel that she should go to the dentist, then take her. I hope this helps, take care.
