My Cycle Is All Wonky. (Is It Doctor Time?)

From the time I first started my menstrual cycle, it's been REGULAR. As in, I could set my calendar and clock to it. I had one or two wonky periods after my daughter was born (3 1/2 years ago) and then was back to my 31 day cycle.

Last June everything got WAKED out (I guess heavy construction, way too little food, way too much caffeine, and extra life stress can do that to yah). I was on a 38-42 day cycle, and when it came it was VERY heavy. Then it started gradually decreasing back to my normal calendar and was still heavy (always has been) but not abnormally so (for me). This month, I'm a week "late". Again. I thought, "Well, I've had sex so I COULD be pregnant." I've taken FOUR pregnancy tests and am satisfied with their consistently negative results. I am NOT pregnant.

My question is: Is this something to see a doctor about? I mean, irregular cycles can mean something or nothing and there are lots of variables, right? Is this something I should be concerned about or should I shrug it off and see how it evolves? Is it time to (gulp) see a doctor and find out if there's something wrong?

What can I do next?

Seeing a doctor shouldn't be that intimidating. I went to see a doctor because, while regular in timing, my period and its corresponding pms was all over the board with symptoms and never the same combination twice. I was more than a little freaked out. But all the doctor did was record my symptoms and take a blood test. They didn't find anything specifically wrong with me and suggested that I get more sleep and exercise.

Time to go to the doctor. There are things that they can do to get you back on track and at the very least find out what is causing the irregularity. Call your OBGYN today!

Ephie,
No need to worry yourself sick over this--get yourself checked out. When is your next annual check up? At least call your OB/GYN and talk to the nurse. Hopefully an exam will put your mind at ease. Kids do WEIRD things to our bodies!
Good luck!

My cycles were never regular so I wouldn't know anything about the normal end of things in that regard.
How long has it been since you had a check up?
You should be going at least once a year.

If I recall, you just got back from a trip far from home that was pretty stressful for you. If you're not pregnant, I would consider that your being "late" has something to do with that.
Your hormone levels could be changing....
It certainly couldn't hurt to run it by your doctor. Guessing could lead to worry and worry could lead to yet another wonky cycle.

I wish you the best, Ephie.

I thought this question was going to be about bikes, those I know. :p

I can't remember how old you are. I know at 34 everything starting going all strange. Then I went on Seasonale and now I don't care. I know my doctor didn't seem at all concerned when everything went crazy, I think he even called me old. Still if it is causing you stress it doesn't hurt to talk to your doctor.

definitely see your OB/GYN, lucky for you in can't be periomenopause; however all the more reason to investigate. Never ever alarm yourself with "what ifs", but uterine fibroids can sometimes cause changes such as yours, Play it safe by getting checked out. Good luck.

Yeah, I think excessive Wonky-itis with regards to female issues merits a call to the doc. Sorry.

Could be 20 years before you have MY kind of wonky, God willing.
